If you are looking for consistency in the NFL, look no further than the Carolina Panthers. While they may sound good, the reality is that their consistency is more than a little alarming, as this is a team that has managed just 5 wins in each of the last 3 seasons. They also consistently seem to lose Christian McCaffrey to injury and consistently struggle to find a QB that can get them heading in the right direction. Things started well last year, with new QB Sam Darnold looking food in taking the Panthers to a 3-0 start, but the wheels came off quickly and the Panthers faltered, losing 7 on a row to close out the season. They made a move to get Baker Mayfield away from Cleveland, but will that reap dividends? Let’s take a closer look at the 2022 Carolina Panthers so you can plan your bets against their NFL Lines.
What are the NFL Odds? Will the Carolina Panthers Record Improve in 2022?
Panthers Win Total and 2022 Schedule
It was a little surprising to see Matt Rhule given another shot as the head coach of the Panthers, but you can bet he will be on a short leash this season. The bookies see a potential for some improvement, as they have the win total for the Panthers set at 6 ½. Not a huge show of support, but a sign that perhaps things might be better.
The opening game of the season looks to be a beauty, as they will face the Cleveland Browns, with all of us hoping that Mayfield gets the starting job. They then face the NY Giants, which means an opportunity to get off to a good start.
Things get very tough after that, though, as it is the Saints, Cardinals, 49ers, Rams, and Buccaneers that come next. There is not a lot of potential for wins in that stretch of games, with the Panthers season potentially all but over after that run.
A pair of games against Atlanta, both of which are winnable, bookend a matchup against the Bengals, which will likely be a loss. That is followed by games against the Ravens and Broncos, both of which are tough.
The best chance for the Panthers to put together a winning run comes late in the season after their bye week, with games against the Seahawks, Steelers, and Lions potentially of the winnable variety. The final two games of the season come against the Buccaneers and Saints, and while you would pencil those in as a loss, both of those teams may have already clinched a playoff spot and be looking to rest some players.
Will the Panthers Improve?
You cannot deny that the Panthers have a very tough schedule ahead of them this season, but they also have enough winnable games to at least match the 5 wins that they have delivered these past 3 seasons. A lot is going to hinge on the QB play, which will most likely be in the hands of Baker Mayfield, and keeping McCaffrey healthy, which is certainly not a given. This team should hit 5 wins, and I would be willing to take a gamble on them improving on that win total in 2022.
