Last Meeting

In 2015, the Texans were 24-17 home winners vs. the Jets. Houston QB TJ Yates tossed two TDs to DeAndre Hopkins, who had 118 yards receiving, and Alfred Blue caught a TD pass from Cecil Shorts. Only Hopkins is still with Houston. J.J. Watt had eight tackles and two sacks. Ryan Fitzpatrick got New York within 24-17 with a touchdown run with 4 1/2 minutes left but was intercepted on the next two drives to seal the win for Houston. Fitzpatrick was 19 of 39 for 216 yards with a touchdown. He’s now with Tampa.

Why Bet on Houston?

The Texans had their nine-game winning streak snapped in a 24-21 home loss to Indianapolis on Sunday, but Houston still has a two-game lead in the division. Deshaun Watson completed 27-of-38 passes for 267 yards with one touchdown while rushing five times for 35 additional yards. He took five sacks for a loss of 41 yards. Watson enjoyed a streak of four straight 300-yard passing games early in the year but he’s been held in check recently, averaging just 209.7 passing yards over his last eight games.

DeAndre Hopkins came down with four catches for 36 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets. The Colts went out of their way to stop him, slowing him with double teams while also bringing safety and linebacker help. Demaryius Thomas delivered four grabs for 48 yards. WR DeAndre Carter left Sunday’s against the Colts with a concussion.

Although Houston scored 21 points, the offense wasn’t consistent, failing to move the ball well on the ground and going just 5-of-15 on third down. The Texans missed their chance to jump the Patriots for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye. After running back Lamar Miller rushed for more than 100 yards in back-to-back weeks, he and backup Alfred Blue combined for 54 yards on 20 carries against the Colts.

Houston’s tight ends were 11-of-11 for 151 yards receiving in the 24-21 loss. Ryan Griffin had a team-high 80 yards on five catches. Rookie Jordan Akins added two first-quarter catches for 40 yards while Jordan Thomas caught four passes for 31 yards. The Texans tight ends accumulated the third-most receiving yards by the position group in a single game in franchise history.

Houston will face Jets QB Sam Darnold this week, the No. 3 overall pick this year. The Texans are 2-0 against the other Top-10 draft selections, having defeated Buffalo’s Josh Allen in Week 6 and Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield in Week 13.

Why Bet on NY Jets?

After missing three games with a foot injury, rookie QB Sam Darnold returned to the field for the Jets’ 27-23 win over the Bills in Week 14. Darnold, who was 16-of-24 for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, orchestrated the game-winning scoring drive with just over two minutes remaining. It was the largest come-from-behind victory ever at Buffalo (overcoming first-half deficits of 14-3 and 17-6) in the Jets’ 59-year history of this rivalry.

New York snapped a six-game losing skid that began Oct. 21 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Jets defense harassed Josh Allen all afternoon, racking up three sacks along with 10 QB hits and making him pay for his efforts as a ball carrier.

Texans vs Jets is scheduled for Saturday.

Elijah McGuire rushed 17 times for 60 yards and a touchdown. McGuire was the Jets’ lead back with Isaiah Crowell sidelined. He had a workhorse role with 20 touches. McGuire salvaged his day with the game-winning touchdown on a goal-line carry with just over a minute remaining. Crowell has been battling a foot/toe issue for most of the second half of the season. If he goes on IR, they’d have McGuire and Trenton Cannon. They also have two backs on the practice squad.

Kick returner Andre Roberts had two long returns, including an 86-yarder. Roberts now has six 50-yard returns on punts and kickoffs (no other NFL returner entered the week with more than two) and solidly led the league with 955 total kick return yards.

Even when they win, the Jets lose. With the 49ers and Raiders winning, the Jets would’ve had the inside track on the No. 1 overall pick if they had lost to the Bills (based on the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker).
