Titans vs Eagles 2019 NFL Preseason Week 1 Odds & Game Preview

Even if you are nothing more than a casual fan of the NFL, you will be acutely aware that it is the QB position that is the most important. There is a reason why it is usually a QB that goes first in the NFL Draft, with every team getting that opportunity looking to find the guy that will pull them out of the doldrums and become an elite player in the league. Those picks tend to be hit or miss, with some guys excelling, while others settle into a permanent back-up role or flame out of the league entirely.

The starting QB’s for these two teams are still relatively early in their careers, with some question marks hanging over both Marcus Mariota and Carson Wentz. The question with Mariota is consistency, while we are all beginning to wonder if Wentz can stay injury-free for an entire season. Neither of those guys is likely to see much time, if any, on Thursday, but these are definitely a pair of teams worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses. The Philadelphia Eagles come into this one favored by 3 ½, with the point total set at 37.

Why bet on the Tennessee Titans?

It looked as though the Titans were about to make a staggering comeback and earn a spot in the playoffs last year, but after reeling off 4-straight wins, they lost to the Colts in the final week of the season, allowing Indianapolis to slip into the Wild Card. The Titans have tended to live or die by the performances of QB Marcus Mariota, with the sense being that this team has underperformed a little.

While certainly not giving up on their starter, the Titans have brought in Ryan Tannehill, with the thought being that we might see a fight for the starting spot this season. That alone should make the Titans preseason worth watching. Tennessee was 3-5 SU on the road last season, but on the plus side, they won all 4 games against non-conference opponents.

Why bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?

There is no denying that Carson Wentz has all the tools to be a great QB in this league, but the question that needs to be asked now is whether he is durable enough for the role after being injured in each of the last 2 seasons. The Eagles had a great safety net at the back-up QB spot, but with Nick Foles now plying his trade in Jacksonville, they had better hope that Wentz is healthy and ready to play a full season.

Titans vs Eagles is going to be a close one.

Despite the injury issues, the Eagles have made back to back postseason appearances, including winning it all 2 years ago, albeit with Foles under center. In their last 7 home meetings with Tennessee, the Eagles are 5-2 SU. It is worth noting, though, that they are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 August games.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Titans vs Eagles

With almost all the starters set to be on the sideline for this one, it’s always tough to come up with a pick. I tend to lean towards the home team in the preseason, which is why I am taking the Eagles to win here.

Score: Tennessee Titans 17 – Philadelphia Eagles 21
