Oilers vs Golden Knights 2020 NHL Game Preview & Betting Odds

Written by on February 26, 2020

This has proven to be one of the more unpredictable NHL seasons in recent memory. It’s tough enough to try and figure out who is going to win the individual divisions, never mind the Stanley Cup. While there is a small group of teams who look a cut above the rest, the reality is that we are seeing a fabulous level of parity this season. Come playoff time, even in the opening round, we are going to see a bunch of series where the teams are really evenly matched. The ways things are going, a few of those series are going to feature divisional rivals going head to head. The most likely matchups, given how things stand right now, would be teams from the Pacific Division going head to head. There is a distinct possibility that 5 teams from that division could be rolling into the postseason, so divisional games right now are incredibly important. We have a good one set to go on Wednesday night, with the Edmonton Oilers heading into Sin City to face the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas are favored by 1 ½ on home ice, with the goal total set at 6 ½. Let’s see how the NHL odds will be for the Oilers vs Golden Knights.

Oilers vs Golden Knights 2020 NHL Game Preview & Betting Odds

Why bet on the Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers looked for a moment as though they were going to take control of the Pacific Division, but as has happened so often there this season, they slipped a little and allowed Vegas to move ahead of them. The Oilers are now down in the #3 spot in the Pacific, although just 2 points back of their Wednesday night opponents. The Oilers are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games, but they have also lost 3 of their last 5, so they could do with a win to get back on track in their quest to win the Pacific. Their cause was not helped by a 4-3 OT loss to Anaheim on Tuesday night, a game that you would certainly have expected Edmonton to win. It was still a valuable point earned, though, with that result taking them to 18-12-3 on the road.

Why bet on the Vegas Golden Knights

It took the Vegas Golden Knights a minute to get to the top of the Pacific Division, but once they got in gear, they arrived there in some style. The Golden Knights are coming into this one on a run that has seem them reel off 6 straight wins, taking them to 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. As good as they have been of late, Vegas are still only 2 points clear of the chasing pack and just 6 points up on the Coyotes, who currently sit in the #5 spot in the Pacific. The fact that the Golden Knights have won 5 in a row at home makes them a good pick here, as does their 19-10-4 record on home ice. In games against Western Conference opposition, Vegas has seen the OVER hit in 5 of the last 7 meetings.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Given how well Vegas have been playing over the past couple of weeks, I was already leaning in their direction here. The fact that this is the second road game in as many nights for the Oilers cements that pick for me.
