Panthers vs Coyotes Last Meeting

On Jan. 7, the Coyotes won 5-2 at Florida. Taylor Hall scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period. Oliver Ekman-Larsson had a goal and two assists, and Lawson Crouse, Carl Soderberg and Christian Dvorak also scored for the Coyotes. Phil Kessel added two assists and Adin Hill stopped 37 shots. Mike Hoffman and Noel Acciari had the goals for the Panthers. Chris Driedger made 32 saves. Hall’s power-play goal, a shot from the right circle that went over Driedger, gave the Coyotes a 3-2 lead at 15:39 of the second.

Why Bet on Florida?

Florida lost a second in a row Saturday, 5-3 at Vegas. The Panthers are four points out of the Eastern Conference wild-card race after dipping to 3-7-0 in their last 10.

Mike Hoffman scored a goal and collected an assist in the loss. Hoffman opened the scoring just 3:28 into the action, picking up his 24th goal of the season. Then, with the Panthers trailing 4-2 in the third, Hoffman notched the primary assist on a goal by Aleksi Saarela.

Sam Montembeault gave up four goals on 38 shots. Montembeault was under heavy fire for large chunks of the night. Still he has allowed just nine goals over his last three starts. Should be Sergei Bobrovsky back in net here. Bobrovsky allowed five goals on 40 shots in a 5-4 loss against the Kings on Thursday night. He has a 22-18-5 record, a 3.29 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

Florida coach Joel Quenneville indicated that winger Dryden Hunt (lower body) could be out of action for a while. Hunt sustained a lower-body injury during Saturday night’s game against Vegas. Hunt entered with four assists in 20 NHL outings this season.

The Panthers made a few trades before Monday’s deadline. They got Erik Haula, Lucas Wallmark, Chase Priskie and Eetu Luostarinen from the Hurricanes for Vincent Trocheck. Haula has 12 goals and 22 points in 41 games this season. Wallmark has 11 goals and 23 points in 60 games. Luostarinen has one assist in eight appearances with Carolina this season. He has spent most of the year in the AHL. Priskie has six goals and 31 points in 52 games at the AHL level this season.

Why Bet on Arizona?

The Coyotes snapped a two-game skid with a 7-3 upset of Tampa Bay on Saturday. It was Arizona’s highest-scoring game of the year.

Clayton Keller ended up with two goals and three points. Keller finished with a plus-1 rating, three shots on goal and a hit in his 12:39 of ice time across 22 shifts. It was Keller’s first multi-point game since he lit the lamp twice against Philadelphia on Jan. 4. He has managed 15 goals and 40 points across 65 games.

Conor Garland also had two goals with an assist. Garland had one power-play goal, his first since New Year’s Eve against the St. Louis Blues, and he ended up with a plus-2 rating, four shots on goal and a hit in his 16:04 of ice time across 23 shifts. He has racked up six goals with nine points across 12 outings in the most of February.

Antti Raanta allowed three goals on 30 shots. Raanta leveled his record at 14-14-3 with a 2.65 goals-against average and .921 save percentage across his 32 appearances this season. He has allowed three or fewer goals in eight of his past nine starts, as he continues to hold down the fort with Darcy Kuemper (lower body) still on the shelf.

Kuemper, an All-Star this season, was assigned to the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL for conditioning purposes and played there Saturday. Kuemper stopped 26 of 28 shots in a 4-1 loss to Stockton on Saturday.  He’s missed more than two months with a lower body injury, and could play as soon Tuesday. The team has called up him.

The Coyotes were without two other key contributors, D Jakob Chychrun and F Christian Fischer, out with lower body injuries. Chychrun could miss the next few games, coach Rick Tocchet said.

Arizona made a trade Monday, landing Markus Hannikainen from Columbus for a 2020 conditional seventh-round pick in the deal. They will get that selection if Hannikainen plays 10 games for the Coyotes. Hannikainen has seven goals and 18 points in 28 games with Cleveland of the AHL this year.
