Expert 2018 World Cup Betting Preview for Day 14

Written by on June 26, 2018

Wednesday represents the penultimate day of the group stage and may actually be one of the best days of the tournament. Day 14 at the 2018 World Cup in Russia will feature action in Group E and Group F, both of which are still wide open with one game to play. The MyBookie Sportsbook top two favorites, Brazil and Germany, heading into the tournament need positive results to ensure that they move on, and the reigning world champions might even need a little help. Let’s look at the 4 games set to go on Day 14.

Expert 2018 World Cup Betting Preview for Day 14

Mexico vs. Sweden

  • When: Wednesday, 10 AM ET
  • Where: Ekaterinburg Arena, Ekaterinburg, Russia
  • TV / Stream: Fox / Fox Sports Go
  • 2018 World Cup Betting Odds: Mexico +144 / Sweden +189 / Draw +220 (Total of 3.5)
Mexico has already punched their ticket into the Round of 16 by winning their opening two games and will finish things up in Group F with a match against Sweden. The Swedes are sure to still be reeling after losing to a late goal against Germany, a loss that hurts their chances of getting into the next round. Sweden really needs to win this one, and their one advantage here may well be that Mexico decides to rest some players ahead of the knockout stage. The Swedes need to go for it, which could leave them exposed to the speedy Mexican counterattack. Score Prediction: Mexico 1 – Sweden 0

Germany vs. South Korea

  • When: Wednesday, 10 AM ET
  • Where: Kazan Arena, Kazan, Russia
  • TV / Stream: Fox / Fox Sports Go
  • 2018 World Cup Betting Odds: Germany -500 / South Korea +950 / Draw +620 (Total 3.5)
Germany is alive by the very slimmest of margins, coming from behind to beat Sweden 2-1 courtesy of a late goal by Kroos. They now sit on 3 points, the same as the team they just beat, and this one may end up coming down to goal difference if Sweden can get the win against Mexico. I have a feeling that the win over Sweden may finally have woke the Germans up, which could well be bad news for South Korea ahead of this one. The Koreans played well enough against Mexico, losing that game 2-1, but look to be in very tough here. Score Prediction: Germany 3 – South Korea 0

Serbia vs. Brazil

  • When: Wednesday, 2 PM ET
  • Where: Spartak Stadium, Moscow
  • TV/Stream: Fox / Fox Sports Go
  • 2018 World Cup Betting Odds: Brazil -185 / Serbia +500 / Draw +295 (Total 2.5)
Neither of these teams can count themselves as safe, so what we are looking at here is a game that both teams need a positive result from. After tying with Switzerland and securing a late win against Costa Rica, Brazil are on 4 points and can move on with a draw here. Brazil is huge 2018 World Cup Betting favorite against Serbia. Serbia gave up a late goal to Switzerland and really need to win this one to move on, which would likely knock Brazil out of the tournament. This one may start off slow, with both teams trying to avoid giving up an early goal. I think the class of Brazil will eventually shine through, though. Score Prediction: Serbia 0 – Brazil 2

Switzerland vs. Costa Rica

  • When: Wednesday, 2 PM ET
  • Where: Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
  • TV / Stream: Fox Sports 1 / Fox Sports Go
  • 2018 World Cup Betting Odds: Switzerland -139 / Costa Rica +400 / Draw +245 (Total 2.5)
The Swiss out themselves in a fantastic position with their late win over Serbia, and they could now potentially win the group with a win over Costa Rica, a team that has already been eliminated. The Swiss grabbed a 1-1 tie against Brazil without looking particularly good, but their performance against Serbia, a game they won 2-1, proved that they are a team to be reckoned with and that their #6 world ranking is no fluke. I’m not really sure how much of a fight Los Ticos will put up here, which is why I think the Swiss come away with the win. Score Prediction: Switzerland 2 – Costa Rica 0
