Through the first 8 weeks of the new Premier League season, I think it’s fair to suggest that there has not been a dominant team.
Sure, the usual names are sitting in the top 4, but none of that group have looked totally unbeatable, as they have all dropped points in the early going.
My English Premier League Matchday 9 Analysis
This is a long season, though, and history has shown that it is usually during and after the holiday season that things really begin to take shape.
For now, it’s all about nabbing points and staying in the title race.
We have some massive games coming this weekend, with the best of the bunch all coming on Sunday. Let’s take a look at those 4 games and make some predictions as we go.

No one really expects either of these teams to win the title this season, but there is an expectation that they will be battling for a top 4 place and a spot in the Champions League next season.
Both are currently sitting outside of that elite group, and while it is still early in the season, this is the type of game that teams need to win if the top 4 is to be a reality.
Chelsea is down in 6th and looking to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to Liverpool, while Newcastle is sitting in 9th, managing just 2 points from their last 4 games. I’m giving the slight edge to Chelsea at home.

With so many teams playing in the nation’s capital, we tend to get London derbies on a pretty regular basis.
While the matchups are common, it is still exciting when they show up on the schedule.
Palace find themselves in real trouble, sitting down in the relegation one and coming into this one on a 3-game losing skid, while picking up just 2 points from their last 5 games.
Tottenham is up in 7th and are sure to be on a high after winning 4-1 against West Ham in another London derby in Matchday 8. I think it will be Spurs who get a comfortable win here.

While Manchester United has been a shadow of their former selves since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, they are still the team that grabs the majority of the tabloid headlines.
Sitting in 12th in the table has some fans calling for the head of the manager, but United proved that they are still fighting for their boss with a come from behind 2-1 win over Brentford last weekend.
West Ham is at the wrong end of the table and are coming off a hammering at the hands of Spurs last weekend. I think the Hammers could be in trouble again on Sunday.

This is, in my mind, the game of the week, as we have a pair of legitimate title contenders going head-to-head. Arsenal is in dire need of a win after losing 2-0 to Bournemouth last weekend after once again being reduced to 10 men via a red card.
There is now chatter that this team is not disciplined enough to win the league, and it is certainly going to be tough given that Arsenal will be missing 5 starters this weekend.
Liverpool is something of a surprise leader right now, mostly because we did not know what to expect from a new manager.
I think Liverpool grinds out the win here.
