Euro Cup 2024 Action Continues! Picks for Croatia vs Albania, Germany vs Hungary & Scotland vs Switzerland

EURO Cup Games For Wednesday: By the time the Tuesday games at the 2024 European Championship in Germany come to close, each of the 24 teams in the tournament will have played one game.

At the moment, in the Group A standings, Germany and Switzerland have 3 points each, while Scotland and Hungary have zero. On the other hand, Croatia and Albania are fighting to get out of the last positions in the Group B standings.

My Analysis

Some will feel as though they are in the perfect position to move on into the Round of 16, while others will certainly believe that they have some work to do if they are to still be a part of this tournament beyond the group stage.

We have a pretty decent cross-section of those teams taking part on Wednesday, with 3 games on the schedule. Let’s quickly break down the odds for the games and make a prediction for each.

Croatia -212 vs Albania +580

Both of these teams will start their second set of games in desperate need of a win. Croatia, who many considered a dark horse, are sure to still be reeling after losing 3-0 to Spain in their opener.

Albania set a tournament record for the fastest goal when going 1-0 up against Italy in just 23 seconds, only to go on and lose 2-1.

This will be the first ever meeting of these two nations, and it comes at a time that is critical for both. Albania is something of a surprise entry in this tournament, while some believe this is the last shot at glory for this current Croatian squad.

I see a close one here, but I like Croatia to get the win.

Germany -400 vs Hungary +900

Prior to this tournament, there was a lot of talk about the decline of the Germans and potential dissension in the squad, but it seems those talks may have been premature.

The hosts looked rampant in their opener, trouncing Scotland 5-1. On the flip side, Hungary did not really put up much of a fight against Switzerland in the other group game, going down to a lopsided 3-1 loss.

Past meetings between these nations have been pretty evenly split, with the Germans winning 13 and Hungary 12. In terms of current form, though, you have to like the hosts to keep their foot on the gas as they look to win this group.

Scotland +320 vs Switzerland -117

As we discussed in the preview for the other game in this group, these two teams saw their Euros get off to very different starts.

Scotland looked to be miles off the pace in an absolute thumping at the hands of the hosts, while the Swiss looked very dangerous indeed against a lackluster Hungary team.

This is must-win territory for the Scots, while Switzerland know that a draw will be more than enough to take them into the Round of 16.

It would be easy to write off Scotland after a horrible start to the tournament, but this is a country that seems to do best when their backs are to the wall, and everyone is counting them out.

They will be looking for a similar outcome to the last time they face Switzerland in this tournament, which was a 1-0 win in 1996. I think they can steal this one.
