Germany Vs Italy Soccer Odds Analysis

Written by on June 30, 2016

We are at the point in Euro 2016 where we are starting to separate the men from the boys. The quarter-finals are upon us, and for the most part, we are seeing the same old familiar faces. While there are a couple of notable exceptions, the final 8 is pretty much what we are used to seeing at the European Championships. Perhaps the most tantalizing game in this round is the one that pits World Champions Germany against the defensive brick wall that is Italy. These two teams have a history that goes way back, but it may come as a surprise to learn who has dominated these meetings in recent years. It has been Italy who have won the last 8 major tournament meetings against Germany, which means that the world champions would appear to have something of an uphill battle on their hands. This is a game where something has to give, as neither team has given up a goal yet in this tournament. Does that mean you should be looking at the online betting odds for the UNDER? Let’s look and see.

Why bet on Germany

The world champions came into this tournament without a few of the faces that were present in the 2014 squad, but they haven’t really missed much of a beat. A lackluster performance against Poland aside, Germany have been their usual efficient selves, scoring 6 goals versus none against so far. Their 3-0 win in the round of 16 versus Slovakia was more along the lines of what we expect from this team, and it may be a sign that they are ready to step things up a gear in the knockout stages. They do have the quality players in midfield to carve open a tough Italy defense, but the big question here is whether or not Thomas Muller is finally going to break his Euros goose egg.

Why bet on Italy

The general consensus heading into this tournament was that this was one of the weakest Italian teams in recent memory. While this may not be a squad filled with household names, it is one that is doggedly determined and more than willing to follow the orders of coach Antonio Conte. The Italian have been tactically brilliant so far, and have played a counter-attacking style that has brought them great success. Like their opponents in this one, Italy has scored 6 goals and given up none in this tournament. They took out reigning champions Spain in the Round of 16, and now have their eyes on doing the same to the defending world champions. It’s a tall order, but this is suddenly the team that everyone is paying attention to in France.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This is a tough one to call, but it has to be done. While I have been impressed with what Italy have accomplished so far, I still feel that the Germans are a better team from top to bottom. It’ll be a close one, but I think Germany will move on.
