MLS Betting Favorites, Smart Picks and Dark Horses for 2018 Season

MLS Betting Odds to Win the 2018 MLS Cup

Team Odds
Los Angeles FC 11/5
Toronto FC 4/1
Atlanta United 7/1
New York City FC 7/1
Seattle Sounders 9/1

The Favorites

Los Angeles FC is favored to win it all despite being an expansion team in 2018 and for good reason. They’ve got some world class talent in the forms of Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi, Benny Feilhaber, Walker Zimmerman, Laurent Ciman and Steven Beitashour. The first 13 on the roster looks like it could compete with anyone. Toronto won it all a year ago and has the look of a team ready to defend its title after getting off to a really good start in the good start in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Smart Picks

Atlanta is one of the sexy picks to improve in a big way in 2018 after adding 18-year-old Argentinean phenom Ezequiel Barco and Darlington Nagbe. NYCFC is expected to contend in a big way this coming season even after moving Jack Harrison to Manchester City. David Villa will be looking for a title in what could be his last season in New York. FC’s midfield trio should be one of the best in the league in 2018. Seattle should be right back in the mix for the league championship after winning it all in 2016. After some widely publicized roster changes in 2017, Seattle looks like they could be very good as they bring back almost everyone from last season’s team.

The Dark Horses

FC Dallas 16/1
Portland Timbers 16/1
LA Galaxy 16/1
New York Red Bulls 16/1
Is FC Dallas safe to bet on this 2018 MLS season? Last year Dallas was supposed to be a legitimate Cup contender. Unfortunately, the fell completely apart, but I think they could turn things right back around in 2018.  The Timbers added winger Andy Polo, defender Julio Cascante and striker Samuel Armenteros to an aging but desperate group of star including  2017 league MVP Diego Valeri. The Galaxy will be looking to turn things around in 2018 after adding some pulling in international defenders, a defensive midfielder and a new keeper. The Red Bulls are going to be a younger, faster and more energetic bunch in 2018 after bring up some of their younger players and jettisoning their captain from a year ago and that makes them a legitimate dark horse in 2018.
