An ATP and WTA 250 tournament, the Adelaide International 1 is one of three tournaments played during the first week of the 2023 season. There’s a star-studded field on both the men’s and women’s sides as players get acclimated to Australia and prepare for the Australian Open, which begins on January 15.
There’s plenty of excitement and anticipation in Australia right now as Novak Djokovic has had his Visa reinstated and is eligible to play in the upcoming Grand Slam, where he will have a chance to tie Rafael Nadal for the all-time lead in Grand Slam victories with 22. The women’s draw includes top players like Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka. Let’s have a closer look at the favorites to win the Women’s, and Men’s tournament so you can bet on their WTA Odds and ATP Odds respectively.
Tennis Betting Preview and Picks for the ATP & WTA 250: Adelaide International 1
Round of 32 Updates
The qualifying matches for Adelaide International were held over the weekend, and due to the time difference in Australia, we’re already well into the Round of 32. The men’s draw has already featured a pair of unexpected upsets, as both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Holger Rune are out of the tournament.
Auger-Aliassime had won three of four tournaments before the ATP Finals and is a popular pick to win his first Grand Slam in Australia. However, the world No. 6 player lost in straight sets to qualifier Alexei Popyrin. A native of Australia, Popyrin had only two prior wins against top-10 opponents, but both of those came via retirement. Rune, meanwhile, lost to Yoshihito Nishioka.
The biggest upset on the women’s side so far has been Linda Noskova’s 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3 victory over world No. 8 Daria Kasatkina. Noskova, an 18-year-old native of Czechia, is playing in just her fifth main draw on the WTA Tour and has yet to beat an opponent in the top 30, let alone the top 10.
Men’s Betting Pick
Djokovic, playing in Australia for the first time in two years, opened as the tournament betting favorite, and it’d be difficult not to pick him to win the tournament, despite a crowded field that also includes Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner. Djokovic won the ATP Finals and is most dominant in Australia on the hard courts.
He is, however, on the same side of the draw as Medvedev, who will be just as determined to gain some momentum in the lead-up to the Australian Open. Djokovic is 8-4 against Medvedev in his career and has won three in a row, including at the ATP Finals last November.
Women’s Betting Pick
While Ons Jabeur is the outright betting favorite to win the tournament, she’ll face tough competition from the likes of Elena Rybakina and Liudmila Samsonova.
Rybakina, who won Wimbledon last year with a finals victory over Jabeur, won her Round of 32 matches against American Danielle Collins and will play Marta Kostyuk in the Round of 16. She could meet Jabeur once again in the quarter-finals. Rybakina was the runner-up at last year’s event, losing to the now-retired Ashleigh Barty in the finals.
