Tennis Betting Preview for ATP 2021 European Open
The 2021 ATP European Open is a men’s tennis tournament played on indoor tennis courts in Antwerp, Belgium. It’s the sixth edition of the European Open and a part of the ATP 250 World Tour series of the 2021 ATP Tour.
- When: October 18 – 24
- Where: Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium
The Italian tennis player is the title favorite in Antwerp, and it’s easy to see why. He has recently defended his crown on the indoor courts in Sofia and is in excellent form on the year.
However, the field in Antwerp will be much more challenging than in Bulgaria, seeing how five other top-30 players in the ATP rankings are attending the 2021 European Open. And that could be concerning, considering the Italian had slipped at the 2021 Indian Wells, where he won just one match before he had to admit defeat to world no.30, Taylor Fritz.
Regardless of that iffy run, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Sinner go all the way, but there are definitely better bets available than Sinner.
Diego Schwartzman is priced as one of the top-three favorites to win the 2021 European Open, and he arguably has the tools needed to go all the way and lift the trophy. The current no.13 has already made two finals here and one semi-final, so it’s fair to say that he will be in the mix.
But like Sinner, Schwartzman could present some questions for bettors. Schwartzman has recently attended the Indian Wells, where he has won against Maxime Cressy (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) and Dan Evans (5-7, 6-4, 6-0), but had to admit defeat to Casper Ruud (3-6, 3-6).
Although there is no shame in losing to Ruud, seeing the Argentine tennis player win only six games across the series hardly inspires any confidence that he might deliver in Belgium. Adding to that, Schwartzman will have a rough draw ahead of him, which makes us very skeptical about his chances to go all the way.
Botic Van De Zandschulp
With many question marks above the top favorites, it’s only reasonable to look for betting opportunities amongst the underdogs. And while there are plenty of outsiders to choose from, it’s Botic Van De Zandschulp who caught out attention.
The 26-year-old presents an excellent longshot bet, considering he has done well on these courts over the season. Just two months ago, Van De Zandschulp made a huge splash by reaching the quarter-finals of the 2021 U.S. Open, and while he hasn’t achieved much since, he also hasn’t played much.
His big serve has done wonders for the 26-year-old in September, and it could help him make some serious noise this week as well. His game is on the rise, and Van De Zandschulp must feel confident in his chances to make a deep run in Belgium.
You could argue that there are more established players attending the 2021 European Open, and that’s true. But if you’re looking for a solid outsider to bet on with a decent chance to upset the field, Botic Van De Zandschulp is the man to follow.
