The 2023 Davis Cup tennis tournament gets underway this week with a full round of qualifiers for the September group stage. The qualifier matches will be played at various venues around the globe, with the hosts decided by the draw.
The main tournament has 12 qualifying matches this weekend with a best–of–three sets matches that include four singles and one doubles match. The winners advance to September’s group stage, where they will be joined by the final four teams from last year’s tournament: Canada, Australia, Italy, and Spain. The finals will be played in Malaga, Spain, in November. Without further a do, let’s look at the some of the best 2023 Davis Cup qualifiers matchups so you can place your bets on the Tennis Odds.
Tennis Betting Preview for the Upcoming 2023 Davis Cup Qualifiers
Qualifying Matchups
On paper and with the MyBookie odds, a few of this week’s matchups are expected to be blowouts. The No. 3 seeded United States team, led by Australian Open semifinalist Tommy Paul heads to face unseeded Uzbekistan. The hosts don’t have a player ranked in the top 400 on the ATP World Rankings, and the U.S. should advance with ease.
Likewise, No. 5 Great Britain should cruise past unseeded Colombia on the road. The GB team is led by Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, and Jack Draper, all ranked in the top 40 in the world. Colombia, meanwhile, has just one player, Daniel Galan, ranked in the top 200. Colombia has altitude as their main advantage, but Great Britain should advance, even without Andy Murray.
Competitive Matchups
Serbia is the No. 6 seed, but they head to Norway without newly crowned World No. 1 Novak Djokovic on the squad. The hosts will have Casper Ruud, ranked No. 4 in the world, and neither of these teams made it to the finals last year. Ruud is the highest-ranked player in the qualifiers, and Serbia will be led by No. 33 Miomir Kecmanovic.
Kazakhstan are seeded No. 7 but have a tricky matchup in South America against Chile. A long trip halfway around the world isn’t easy, and the matches will be played in a desert climate of La Serena, Chile in what could be high summer temperatures. Alexander Bublik is the only player in the tie ranked in the top 50, and if he doesn’t secure two singles wins, Chile will be primed to pull an upset.
Kazakhstan upset Norway last March when Bublik beat Ruud to make the 2022 Davis Cup Finals. This tie will be played on clay though, which also gives Chile an advantage. Chile made the finals in 2019, and by picking the least favorite surface of the Kazakhstan team, they could be headed back this season.
Other Matches
Germany is close to full strength with the return of Alexander Zverev as the No. 4 seeds host Switzerland. No. 1 seed Croatia is loaded, even without Marin Cilic, for a home tie against Austria, especially if Dominic Thiem isn’t healthy for the visitors.
Belgium is the No 8 seed, favored on the road at South Korea, while No. 9 Sweden are favored at home against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Netherlands (10) are favored at home against Slovakia, while No. 11 Argentina travel to Finland and No. 12 Czech Republic head to Portugal. Of these, Finland may be in the best shape for an upset as Argentina aer without their top two singles players.
If history is a barometer, expect the seeded teams to be in control this weekend. Last year, the seeded teams were 10-2 in the qualifiers, and the host teams were 8-4. No-seeded teams lost at home in the qualifiers. Keep up with the Davis Cup qualifiers at MyBookie, the best place to bet on any and all tennis matches worldwide.
