Expert Tennis Betting Picks of the Week – March 12th

Written by on March 12, 2018

This week, the tennis betting action is all about the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, California, as the men head into the round of 32, while the women are down to the final 16. The biggest surprise on the men’s side was the ousting of Novak Djokovic, although, given his recent injury issues, it is perhaps not that much of a surprise that his tournament came to a premature end. The women will finish the bottom half of the round of 32 early in the week before getting all the way into the round of 16 a little later. Let’s take a look at some of the big matches set to be played over the next couple of days, including their respective tennis odds, for both the women’s and men’s side.

Expert Tennis Betting Picks of the Week – March 12th

BNP Paribas Open Women’s Tournament

WTA Ranking – Top 10

  • 1-Simona Halep
  • 2-Caroline Wozniacki
  • 3-Garbiñe Muguruza
  • 4-Elina Svitolina
  • 5-Alexander Zverev
  • 6-Karolina Pliskova
  • 7-Jelena Ostapenko
  • 8-Caroline Garcia
  • 9-Venus Williams
  • 10-Petra Kvitova
The top half of the women’s draw completed the round of 32 over the weekend, with #1 seed Simona Halep the only seeded player to move on. She had a fight on her hands to reach this point, being taken the distance by Caroline Dolehide in the last round.Halep will next face Qiang Wang, who is coming off an impressive straight sets win over #14 seed Kristina Mladenovic. One to watch on this half of the draw is Petra Martic, who just took out #6 seed Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets. The highlight of the bottom half of the draw will be the match-up between Venus and Serena Williams. There was always the feeling that these two were going to meet at this stage, with most believing that Venus will have the edge over her sister, as this is her first tournament back since having a child. Serena has looked good in the opening rounds, though, so no slam dunk for Venus here.A lot of the seeded players are still alive at this end of the draw, including #2 seed Caroline Wozniacki, who will go against unseeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich in this round.

BNP Paribas Open Men’s Tournament

ATP Ranking – Top 10

  • 1-Roger Federer
  • 2-Rafael Nadal
  • 3-Marin Cilic
  • 4-Grigor Dimitrov
  • 5-Alexander Zverev
  • 6-Dominic Thiem
  • 7-David Goffin
  • 8-Juan Martin del Potro
  • 9-Kevin Anderson
  • 10-Jack Sock
There have been a few casualties among the top seeds in the men’s tournament in the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, although defending champion and top seed Roger Federer is still very much alive and well. His next challenge will be against Filip Krajinoviv, a player that he has yet to face in his career. It’s tough to imagine Federer losing this one.The biggest danger for Federer in his side of the draw is going to be #5 seed, Dominic Thiem. He will go against Pablo Cuevas, a player he has beaten twice in their 3 previous meetings. Look for Thiem to move on and edge ever closer to a meeting with Federer.Dominic Thiem looks like a good Tennis Betting Pick for this week.Down in the lower half of the draw, #2 seed Marin Cilic is also still alive. He will have a seeded opponent as his next challenger, with #31 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber next up. This is a tougher one for Cilic than it may appear at first glance, as he is 4-6 in career meetings against the German. There are still a lot of seeded players alive in the men’s tournament, which means we will have a lot of big games ready to go as we edge ever closer to the final on the weekend.
