Betting 2024 Mallorca Championships

The Mallorca Championships, an ATP 250 grass court tournament, is taking place for the fourth time this year at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Academy in Spain.

It’s one of two grass court events in the lead up to Wimbledon, the third grand slam of the ATP season, and features four of the top-25 players in the world, including first seed and world No. 14 Ben Shelton.

Mallorca Championships Top 3 Seeds

Ben Shelton

Shelton hasn’t quite taken the leap many expected after his breakthrough season in 2023, but he is still capable of beating anybody on any day.

He is 19-13 this season and 0-2 on grass courts, losing consecutive matches against Giovanni Perricard and James Duckworth.

He was just 2-3 on grass courts last season.

Shelton won in Houston this year and reached the semi-finals in Dallas and Auckland.

Ugo Humbert

Ugo Humbert, ranked No. 16 in the world, is 21-12 this season and 2-2 on grass courts.

He had a losing record on the surface in each of the last two seasons and isn’t a strong pick to win in Mallorca, especially since he’s playing Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round.

Bautista Agut beat Taro Daniel 6-1, 6-0 in the first round, is 1-0 against Humbert, and hasn’t had a losing season on grass courts since his rookie year on the ATP Tour in 2010.

Adrian Mannarino

Adrian Mannarino, as the third seed, receives an automatic bye into the second round, where he will play Alex Michelsen.

It has been a struggle this year for Mannarino, who is 7-16 and has just one win in his last nine matches.

He is coming off of a loss to Grigor Dimitrov at the Queen’s Club Championship. Mannarino is 1-0 against Michelsen, beating him in straight sets on grass in July of last season.

Mallorca Championships Potential Upsets

Christopher Eubanks (-190) vs. Jakub Mensik (+135)

Christopher Eubanks is the defending champion in Mallorca and with that comes a lot of pressure.

He returns as the eighth seed with an abysmal 5-15 record this season, although he is 2-2 on grass.

He has a tough test ahead in the first round on Monday against rising Czech star Jakub Mensik, who is 19-11 this season.

Mensik has lost four matches in a row and should be hungry for a win.

Alex Michelsen vs. Adrian Mannarino

As mentioned earlier, Mannarino has just one win in his last nine matches and isn’t showing any signs of confidence right now.

The 35-year-old French player hasn’t exactly played the best players on the ATP Tour in recent matches either.

He’s ripe for the picking for Michelsen, a 19-year-old American who will be looking to even the score in their all-time head-to-head series.

Michelsen is 19-20 this season and has won three of his last four matches.

He beat Nuno Borges 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the first round.

Mallorca Championships Finals Prediction

The tournament is incredibly wide open with few top players and the top seeds struggling, but Shelton, the top seed, is a good pick to win the top half of the bracket as he has the most favorable path to the final.

Bautista Agut is a good surprise pick to win the bottom half of the bracket.

He was runner-up here in 2022.

Pick: Shelton def. Bautista Agut

ATP Pick: Medvedev def. Zverev

Previous Betting News

The 2023 Mallorca Championship is underway in Spain. Once a clay court event in the early 2000s, the tournament is now a grass court event being played along with the Rothesay International ahead of Wimbledon next week.

Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas headlines a relatively weak field as he is the only player within the top 30 in the world. Others include Ben Shelton, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Adrian Mannarino, and Alexander Bublik.

That said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Mallorca Championships tournament so you can bet against the ATP betting lines.

2023 Mallorca Championships: Breaking Down the Draw

Tsitsipas, the top seed in the tournament, receives an automatic entry into the second round, where he’ll meet the winner of Yannick Hanfmann and Pedro Cachin, who play Monday. Tsitsipas has a pretty clear path to the semifinals, with his biggest challenge perhaps being Mannarino, the world No. 46. Marcos Giron and Christopher O’Connell are already eliminated from the tournament.

Davidovich Fokina receives a bye into the second round in the bottom half of the draw and is the clear favorite to meet Tsitsipas in the final if things play out as expected. Bublik and Albert Ramos Vinolas meet in perhaps the most anticipated first-round match.

Betting Opportunities for this Tournament

Richard Gasquet (+136) vs. Jordan Thompson (-175)

Gasquet and Thompson meet for their third time on Monday in the first round of the Mallorca Championship. Thompson could probably be a bigger favorite based on their past history as he is 2-0 against Gasquet and has a win on grass. Thompson is just 8-11 this season but has been playing at a high level as of late, with a record of 5-2 in his last seven matches.

Gasquet, meanwhile, is 12-15 this season and has lost consecutive matches on grass in Stuttgart and Halle. He did, however, beat Tsitsipas in the Round of 16 at Stuttgart. Gasquet is 80-40 in his career on grass, and Thompson is 60-42, including 29-13 over the last three years. Expect a three-set victory for Thompson.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas (+174) vs. Alexander Bublik (-227)

Bublik is a player worth keeping an eye on as we near Wimbledon. The talented Kazakh is coming off of a tournament win at ATP Halle, where he beat top-tier players like Borna Coric, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Andrey Rublev. He beat Sinner and Zverev in straight sets. A strong grass court player, Bublik has +8500 odds to win Wimbledon, but that could shrink considerably with another impressive performance in Mallorca.

Ramos-Vinolas, meanwhile, hasn’t played an ATP Tour match since losing a five-set first-round match against Stan Wawrinka in the first round of the French Open. He’s just 6-17 this season. Bublik is 3-0 against Ramos-Vinolas and has won two of those matches in straight sets.

Adrian Mannarino (+300) vs. Guido Pella (-429)

Upsets are somewhat common in tennis, but don’t expect that here as Mannarino should have an easy time advancing past Guido Pella. Mannarino is ranked nearly 300 spots higher than Pella, has a better grasscourt record, and is 1-0 against Pella, with a victory on clay way back in 2016. Pella is just 11-17 on grass in his career compared to Mannarino, who is 75-52.

Tennis Betting Preview for 2021 Mallorca Championships & 2021 Viking International Eastbourne

2021 Mallorca Championships

When: 19-26 June
Where: Santa Ponsa Tennis Academy in Santa Ponsa, Spain

Mallorca Championships to Feature Two Top Five ATP Players

The inaugural 2021 Mallorca Championship is an outdoor grass-court tennis tournament and a part of their ATP Tour 250 series of the 2021 ATP Tour. The contest will run from June 19-26, featuring some of the world’s best men’s tennis players.

It will mark the first grass-court ATP tournament in Spain and the first time a tour will travel to Mallorca since 2002.

The tournament will welcome the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, and the reigning French Open champions Novak Djokovic, who will duke it out for the lion’s share of the €720,000 prize pool. Medvedev and Thiem are two of the highest-seeded singles players, while Djokovic is set to compete in doubles with Carlos Gómez-Herrera, who has previously played alongside Novak’s younger brother Marko.

With Djokovic not attending the singles tournament, the focus will shift towards Medvedev as the main favorite to claim the gold. He received a direct bye into the second round and could face fifth seed Dane Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals, as the Dane opens the tournament against Gilles Simon.

Medvedev has won 10 ATP Tour titles in his career, although not a single one on grass, where he holds a 28-15 career record. His best attempt to win on grass came in 2019 when he made it to the semi-finals at the Cinc Championships.

If the Russian slips again, the second-seeded Dominic Thiem would take over as the player to watch. He has 17 ATP Titles, including the 2020 US Open and 2016 MercedesCup, where he won his first title on grass.

Viking Eastbourne International 2021

When: 21-26 June
Where: Devonshire Park LTC in Eastbourne, United Kingdom

Plenty of Action in Eastbourne

The Viking Eastbourne International 2021 will feature both men’s and women’s competitions as a part of the WTA 500 and ATP 250 series on the men’s side. The WTA draw will include 32 players, while the ATP will feature 28.

Although a reasonably sizable draw, there are a few names that stand out as the main favorites, both due to the quality of the players and their previous success on Eastbourne’s grass courts.

On the women’s side, eight seeds are all ranked inside the top-20, which includes five of the top-10. The name to watch in Eastbourne is Aryna Sabalenka as world no.4. Yet, you can’t look past Bianca Andreescu, Elina Svitolina Iga Swiatek, and Karolina Pliskova as the names that round up the top-five seeds.

While a relatively stacked field, most of the attention will be pointed towards a 17-year-old sensation Coco Gauff, who has been phenomenal on grass and could make a surprise run. Given her form, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Gauff lift the trophy this week.

We will see five of the top-30 players on the men’s side, including world no.16 Gaël Monfils as the top-seeded player. Joining him are Alex De Minaur, Aslan Karatsev, Lorenzo Sonego, Nikoloz Basliashvili, Reilly Opelka, and Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Marin Cilic, Taylor Fritz, Aslan Karatsev, Filip Krajinovic, Benoit Paire, and Stan Wawrinka were all supposed to enter the tournament but withdrew.

Taking over as their replacements are Vasek Pospisil, Yoshihito Nishioka, Emil Ruusuvuori, Egor Gerasimov, Alexei Popyrin, Aljaž Bedene.

De Minaur is our pick for the player to watch at the Viking Eastbourne International 2021. He has a solid grass court game and an amazing touch that could take him far in this tournament.

His road to the finals doesn’t seem too difficult, and while he is likely to meet with Albert Ramos-Vinolas as the final obstacle ahead of his second career title, the 22-year-old should have the edge over the 11-year older Spaniard.
