ATP UniCredit Firenze Open Analysis, Betting Favorites, and Predictions 2022

The 2022 UniCredit Firenze Open is an indoor hard-court tournament in Florence, Italy, played this year at the Palazzo Wanny. It’s the first edition of the tournament since the year 1994, and one of six tournaments played this year in lieu of the fact the ATP Tour has banned all events in China due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the draw doesn’t feature any top-10 players, there’s plenty of talent in Florence. World No. 13 Felix Auger-Aliassime headlines the draw, which also includes Italian home crowd favorites Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Musetti. There’s also a group of top American players at the event in Maxime Cressy, Jenson Brooksby, and Brandon Nakashima.  Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming tournament so you can get ready to bet against the ATP Odds.

Tennis Betting Preview for the ATP 250: 2022 UniCredit Firenze Open Tournament

First-Round Upset Picks

First-round matches have already begun as of early Monday morning. However, the most intriguing first-round matches are set for Tuesday. This includes Alexander Bublik (-400) vs. Cristian Garin (+300) and Marton Fucsovics (+120) vs. Oscar Otte (-150).

Bublik, the No. 7 seed in the tournament and world No. 43, is coming off of a finals appearance at the Moselle Open at the end of September, defeating Holger Rune and Stan Wawrinka, albeit in a walkover, along the way. Garin, meanwhile, hasn’t competed since losing to Alex de Minaur in four sets in the Round of 64 at the US Open.

Despite Bublik being the favorite, Garin has won the only match between the two players. He defeated Bublik in 2020 in Germany. Garin is a battler so expect this one to go three sets with the underdog victorious.

Marton Fucsovics is also poised to score a victory as the betting underdog. The veteran Hungarian player hasn’t had much success as of late but has played several close matches and is on the cusp of finding his game at the right time. He and Otte have similar records this season and have surprisingly never played each other on the ATP Tour.

The Favorites

It’s hard to bet on anyone other than the two betting favorites – Auger-Aliassime and Berrettini – to win this tournament. Sonego, who is also Italian and should benefit from the home crowd, has an outside chance, but Auger-Aliassime and Berrettini are playing at a different level right now, especially coming off of their competitive match at the Laver Cup, which Berrettini won 7-6 (13-11), 4-6, 10-7.

Auger-Aliassime struggled for much of this summer, despite winning his first career tournament earlier this year. However, he played well for Canada in Davis Cup action and seemed to be getting back on track. Berrettini has also played well as of late and reached the quarter-finals of the US Open.

The draw sets up so that Auger-Aliassime would meet Berrettini in the finals. The Canadian will likely have to get through Musetti or Sonego in the semifinals, while Berrettini will probably meet one of Garin/Bublik/Maxime Cressey/Aslan Karatsev.
