Greet Minnen and American legend Venus Williams will meet for the first time in one of Tuesday’s headline matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Minnen, whose best-ever finish at the US Open was a third-round result in 2021, earned entry into this year’s tournament after winning three consecutive qualifying matches. Williams was granted one of a handful of wildcard entries.

While Williams is the sentimental favorite, the former world No. 1 will be in tough to beat Minnen, who is 9-1 in her last ten matches and 48-15 this season, albeit with most of those wins in ITF events. Williams is just 3-6 this season.

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs. Leylah Fernandez

Tuesday’s first-round match between Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova and Canadian Leylah Fernandez will be the third meeting between the two players. They split the previous two meetings.

Neither player is playing at their peak right now, but Fernandez has shown signs of turning things around as of late. She’s also a former US Open finalist, losing to Emma Ranucanu in the 2021 finals, so she should get a boost from playing in a venue in which she has plenty of success.

Although they have both played more than 100 matches during the last three years, Tallon Griekspoor and Arthur Fils meet for the first time in their respective careers in Tuesday’s second-round match.

Griekspoor, the -160 betting favorite, is 28-16 this season, including 14-8 on outdoor hard courts. He’s a career-best world No. 24 despite winning just one of his last five matches.

Fils, meanwhile, is 33-16 this season, including just 2-2 on outdoor hard courts. The world No. 48 is 5-5 in his last ten matches. Expect a close, five-set battle here, with Griekspoor holding the slight advantage.

John Isner, one of the most accomplished and hardest-hitting Americans of the 2000s, announced his intention to retire following the US Open. He’s by no means a legitimate contender to win the tournament, but don’t expect him to go out in the Round of 128.

Isner, 38, has shown he can still compete against mid-level players. He’s just 8-13 this season but has beaten players like Tommy Paul, J.J. Wolf, and Corentin Moutet. He rarely loses on serve and should give Facundo Diaz Acosta, ranked outside of the top 100, fits in their match on Tuesday.
