My Analysis

We have a tight race going at the top of the driver standings in the Xfinity series with a single point separating the top two drivers, but it may be another who steals the limelight this weekend. We have a Cup Series driver dropping in for this race, which has had an impact on the odds across the board. Then again, we could see an Xfinity driver get the job done. Either way, let’s take a look at the current Xfinity odds.

William Byron Xfinity Odds +270

As mentioned above, we have a Cup Series driver racing this weekend, which very often shakes things up. Byron is having a great season over in the Cup Series, already picking up a trio of wins. His last full-time appearance in the Xfinity Series came in 2017, when he ended up winning it all, which prompted him to move on up to the highest level in NASCAR. While he is certainly a deserving favorite here, there is no guarantee that he is going to run away with this race. He already raced once at this level earlier in the year and failed to crack the top 20 in Phoenix.

Justin Allgaier Xfinity Odds +360

The Cuper Series drivers always end up as the favorite when they drop into the lower level, but as mentioned earlier, there is zero guarantee of them getting the win. There are plenty of drivers here who could spring the minor upset, with the bookies putting Justin Allgaier at the top of the list. It has not been the best start to the season for Allgaier, but he is doing his usual and picking up points to stay in touch at the top, as he is currently sitting in 5th overall right now. He has been on the podium in each of the last 3 seasons in Dover, so I would take him to finish there again on Saturday.

Cole Custer Xfinity Odds +560

I think it’s fair to suggest that we are still waiting to see the best from the defending Xfinity Series champion, as Custer is still in search of his first win of the year. You do get a feeling that it’s coming, though, as he has been close on several occasions, landing in the top 5 no less than 5 times already. It took him a while to get his first win last season, so there is certainly no reason to panic. Custer ran 7th in Dover last season, but I think we might see more from him this time around, with a top 5 finish a decent wager, I believe.

Aric Almirola Xfinity Odds +770

At this stage of his career, Almirola seems to have settled on racing on a part-time basis. He has had 4 runs in the Xfinity Series this season and had been strong in the last 2. He finished 2nd in Richmond and followed that up with a win in Martinsville, which was his last race this season. Given that he races so sparingly now, it’s tough to know what to expect, but he might be worth taking a risk on, even if only as a top 5 finisher.

2023 Xfinity Series A Hero 200

While NASCAR is a rather large umbrella, the three major series that sit under it all work on their own schedule. The Truck Series playoffs have been ongoing for a couple of weeks, while the Cup Series playoffs will start this weekend in Darlington. The Xfinity Series, which is what we are focusing on here, still has a couple of more races to come before the first cut and the start of their playoffs, With that in mind, it’s perhaps no real surprise that we are seeing a few Cup Series drivers drop in to the Xfinity Series this weekend as they look to prepare for their opening race in the Round of 16. That has had an impact on the overall Xfinity odds for the VFW Help a Hero 200, so let’s take a quick look at the favorites.

Kyle Larson

NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +191

Make no mistake about it, every Cup Series driver dropping down this weekend wants to win, but they would probably also agree that simply getting a good race in before their big event is just as important. It is somewhat special to see Larson taking part in the Xfinity Series, as he really doesn’t drop down that often. In fact, he has just 1 race at this level in 2023, a race that he failed to win, finishing 3rd in the Sonoma Road Race. Prior to that, he had won 2 in a row in the Xfinity Series, so it is easy to understand why the bookies have him in as the favorite to win this weekend.

Denny Hamlin

NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +230

You have to go back to 2020 to find the last time that Hamlin raced in the Xfinity Series, and what you find when you take a look back is that he has not had a ton of success. He has raced just 3 times at this level since 2018, failing to take the checkered flag in any of those races. For Hamlin, you feel that racing here is more about getting a feel for the track as opposed to getting a win, but it’s never a bad idea to have a positive run before a massive race. He finished 1st and 2nd, respectively, in his last 3 Cup Series races on this track, so he is certainly in with a shot.

Kyle Busch

NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +570

Are we going to see Cup Series drivers sweep the top 3 spots in the Xfinity Series this weekend? The possibility of that happening is certainly there, but with the battle for playoff spots going on, this might not be the smooth sailing that many believe it might be. After sweeping all 5 races in he ran in the Xfinity Series last season, Busch has struggled this year, failing to win in 3 attempts at this level. He wins more often than not in the Xfinity Series, though, so it would be a mistake to rule him out.

Justin Allgaier

NASCAR Xfinity Odds: +670

Finally, we get to see a full-time Xfinity Series driver on the bookies board, and is it any real surprise that Allgaier is the man up among the favorites? Allgaier comes into this one on a bit of a high after winning his 2nd race of the season last weekend in Daytona. Making it back-to-back wins on Saturday is going to be tough when you consider the level of competition here, but taking Allgaier to finish top 3 or 5 might not be a bad idea.
