IndyCar 2022 Detroit Grand Prix Betting Picks, Analysis and Prediction

There is such a huge buzz around the Indianapolis 500 that it’s easy to forget that it’s just a single race in a long IndyCar season. That race is now in the books, which means it’s time for the drivers to focus on the remaining races still to come in the 2022 IndyCar season. For now, that means looking ahead to the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, which is set to go this Sunday, June 5. We have a fantastic battle going on at the top of the driver standings, with just 24 points separating 1st from 4th. It’s a wide-open race for the title this season and it looks as though we might need to go down to the wire to crown a winner, just like we did last season. For now, let’s take a look at the current top 4 and how they might look this weekend in Detroit so you can get ready to make your bets against the IndyCar Odds.

IndyCar Betting Analysis and Prediction for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Race

Marcus Ericsson

After a rather unremarkable first couple of years in IndyCar, Ericsson took a big step forward last season, winning a pair of races on his way to a 6th place overall finish. The big question was whether he would be able to build on that this year, with the answer now certainly being that he can. Ericsson made a huge statement of intent with a win at the Indianapolis 500, and there is reason to believe that he could keep this going. After all, his first win at this level came in Detroit last season, so this may well be a race that he really likes. It’s always tough to come back down after a huge win, but he needs to look beyond that and focus on keeping the momentum going.

Pato O’Ward

Steady progress is always a good thing, and it is exactly what O’Ward has experienced during his time in IndyCar. His first full year came in 2020, when he ran 4th overall in a COVID disrupted season. He followed that up with a 3rd place finish last year and is now looking to go one step further in 2022 and win a championship. He has been a little inconsistent through the first 6 races of the season, but O’Ward does have a win to his name and is coming off a 2nd place finish in the Indianapolis 500. There were 2 races in Detroit last season, with O’Ward winning one and going 3rd in the other.

Alex Palou

In just his 2nd full season as an IndyCar driver, Palou went out and won the World Championship. Winning it in back-to-back seasons is tough to do, but Palou is right there in the hunt again, sitting in 3rd in the driver standings in the early going. He won 3 races on his way to the title last season, but he is still looking for his first win of the 2022 season. His 3rd place run in Detroit last year suggests that he could be one to watch this weekend.

Will Power

There are a few drivers who have been the model of consistency over the years, with Will Power certainly part of that group. He won his lone IndyCar title in 2014 and has a run of not finishing worse than 5th in 11 of the last 12 seasons. 2021 was an off year for him, though, as his 9th place finish was viewed by many as a disappointment. He was not great in Detroit last season, but his current form suggests that he will be a factor this weekend.
