Written by on January 12, 2017

The 2016 college football season may now be a thing of the past, but collegiate gridiron gaming enthusiasts everywhere can get way ahead of the game for next season by gathering as much pertinent online betting information as possible.

That’s where I come in. Thanks to the expert betting information that I’m about to drop on handicapping college football early in the season, you’re going to have a great chance to get your 2017 betting campaign off to  positive start. Now, let’s get started.

College Football Betting: Handicapping The Early Football Season

Returning Starters

Does the college football team you’re planning on betting on or against have a slew of experienced returning starters or maybe just a handful on both sides of the ball?

If you’re handicapping college football early in any season, knowing the returning experience level of each team is an absolute must! Teams that have more experienced players returning are far more likely to get off to a positive start than a team whose vast majority of starters are inexperienced and need time to learn.

Incoming Talent

Does the team you’re planning on wagering on or against have a boatload of elite incoming talent that could make an immediate impact or do they have some more modest high schoolers that will need a year or two to make their impacts felt? Teams that get elite high schoolers that advance more quickly than teams whose incoming talent need more time to season will almost surely have more early success than teams that get lesser talented high schoolers.

Coaching Changes

If a team has a new head coach, they’ll almost surely struggle early while learning their new coach’s style and system as opposed to teams that have longer tenured head coaches that already have their program on track and the kind of players they need to make that system successful. Make sure you’re knowledgeable about new head coaches and how fast they’ve been able to turn around programs – or if they’ve even been head coaches before.

Top-Notch Talent?

Does the college football team you’re planning on betting on early in the season get a ton of five-star high schoolers like Alabama, LSU or USC or do they have to overachieve with lesser talented, three and four-star high schoolers? Does the program you’re planning on betting on or against do more with less like Boise State, or do they underachieve despite their high talent levels like Georgia?

Make sure you know each team’s overall talent base levels, particularly early on when flat-out talent can often overcome a better coached team.

Motivation

Does the team you’re planning on betting on early have a ton of motivation like Clemson Tigers did this season or are they trying coming off an overachieving campaign that may have given them false hope that they are going to be better than they were a year ago?

Teams with tons of motivation are more likely to get off to a better start than teams who are maybe a bit entitled or overachieved a year earlier.
