Liberty at Virginia NCAA Football Week 11 Odds & Game Preview

Written by on November 9, 2018

As seems to be the case every single year, the conference battles in college football are going to go right down to the wire. As it stands right now, the SEC Conference is the only one in the Power 5 that has already seen the title game decided. For the rest, there is going to be a few more weeks of stress and big games before we know who will be doing what once Conference Championship Weekend rolls around. In the ACC, things are somewhat more straightforward, as it looks as though Clemson will once again be the team representing the Atlantic Division.

Who they will play in the ACC Championship Game remains to be seen, though, as the Coastal Division is about as tight as it gets. The Pittsburgh Panthers have the inside track right now, but the Virginia Cavaliers are breathing right down their neck. The reality is that Virginia needs to win out and get a little help, but they certainly should pick up the W this weekend. They are in as a 23 ½ point favorite over the Liberty Flames, with the point total in this one set for 60 ½.

Why bet on the Liberty Flames?

The Liberty Flames are more than likely going to be on the wrong end of a beating here, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t make things a little uncomfortable for the Cavaliers. Liberty is coming into this one with a 4-4 record on the season, but they are on a run where they have won 2 of their last 3 games.

Moreover, this is a team that can score points, as witnessed by the fact that they have tallied combined points over those last 3 games. This is not a team that does well outside of their own building, though, as they have just 5 total wins in their last 25 games away from home. That said, this is a team that is pretty good at covering the spread, especially on the road, where they have gone 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games.

Why bet on the Virginia Cavaliers?

After going on a run where they won 5 out of 6, the Cavaliers had put themselves in a solid position in the Coastal Division. A win over Pittsburgh last week may have all but clinched them a spot in the ACC Championship Game, but they ended up losing that one 23-13 in a game that they started as a 7-point favorite.

Liberty at Virginia should be an easy victory for the Cavaliers.

Given that loss, Virginia is going to really need some help to lift the division title, although they could get some help from the Hokies on Saturday, as they are in against Pitt. The Cavaliers have been particularly good at home, going 5-1 SU and ATS in their last 6 games in their own building. They are also 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction

While I don’t think there is any doubt that the Cavaliers will win this one, I am a little concerned about the size of that spread. I think the Liberty Flames might be able to do just enough to cover.
