Louisiana-Lafayette at Alabama NCAA Football Week 5 Preview

Written by on September 27, 2018

After just 4 weeks of the college football season, we have seen our usual share of upsets and downright shocking results. Through all of that, though, there are some things that have remained very much the same, with the top 4 teams this week exactly the same as they were at the start of the season. The only change there has been Georgia vaulting Clemson to take the #2 spot.

Given the strength of the 4 programs in question, it is probably not surprising to see them reach this point unscathed, but what is perhaps a little surprising is the nature in which the defending National Champions have gone about their business. They came into the season with questions about which QB, Tua Tagovailoa or Jalen Hurts, would be leading the team, but that has all been forgotten, as they have blown out every single team that they have faced to this point. The champions are rolling again and come into their home game against the ULL Ragin’ Cajuns as a huge 49 ½ point favorite, with the point total set at 67 ½.

Why bet on the ULL Ragin’ Cajuns?

The Ragin’ Cajuns opened the season with an emphatic win over Grambling, but it has been all downhill for them since then, losing back to back games by a combined score of 86-38. They look to be in for a bit of a beating here, with the hope being that they can keep things as respectable as possible. That may be a bit of a stretch for ULL, though, as they have only managed to cover the spread once this season and are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games.

They have the exact same ATS record in their last 5 games on the road. They have also only managed one win in their last 5 games away from home. The Ragin’ Cajuns are averaging 29 PPG and mix their attack between the air and ground. They can score, but you wonder how they are going to have any sort of success against the Crimson Tide.

Why bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide?

When you look at all the stats and trends for the Alabama Crimson Tide, you begin to wonder if they will ever lose a game again. This is a team that is putting up just shy of 54 PPG this season while surrendering less than 13 PPG. The closest call that they have had this season came last week when Alabama beat Texas A&M by a score of 45-23, which was also the first time that they failed to cover the spread this season.
Louisiana Lafayette at Alabama should be an easy victory for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama is an absolute juggernaut anywhere they play, but they are especially tough to beat in their own building. They are a perfect 3-0 in their own building this season and should not really have any issue winning this one. The OVER has hit in 4 of the last 5 games they have played.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction

This is a huge spread and the kind that I usually steer clear of, but I would not be stunned to see the Crimson Tide cover in what is sure to be a lopsided win.

Score: ULL Ragin’ Cajuns 6 – Alabama Crimson Tide 59
