The Longhorns have lost at USC, vs, Oklahoma and against the Cowboys last weekend, by a combined 11 points. “Our guys are very confident with where we’re at,” coach Tom Herman said Monday at his weekly media availability. “They’re very confident in the lessons we’ve learned in even the close ones against the teams from Oklahoma.” Texas got the win last weekend by pounding the Bears with their rushing attack. The Longhorns rushed for 171 yards as a team and got three rushing scores from a trio of players including backup quarterback Shane Buechele who also passed for 256 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win. Defensively, Texas held winless Baylor to just 31 rushing yards while forcing three turnovers. Now, Herman won’t announce who his starting quarterback will be this coming weekend, although most everyone expects it to be Ehlinger. “Probably the only silver lining to having those guys banged up and both of them having played very well at times is that we don’t have to name a starting quarterback,” Herman said. “Unless college football has gone to the NFL, we don’t have to say anything about our depth chart. By Wednesday or Thursday, we probably should know internally, but that’s for (TCU) to figure out.”Team Statistics

TCU fell from No. 4 last week to No. 1o this week after losing to streaking Iowa State 14-7 last weekend. Quarterback Kenny Hill finally had a bad game this season by passing for just 135 yards while tossing two interceptions and no touchdowns in the loss. “We’ve got goals that we’re climbing to get,” TCU cornerback Jeff Gladney said. “We’re just looking up, never looking down. Everything we need to get it up.” The Horned Frogs’ defense kept Iowa State off the scoreboard in the second half and limited the Cyclones to just 40 yards. “The guys did a better job of tackling, and we defended the pass,” coach Gary Patterson said. “We started doing what we said we had to do. We contested shots.”
Still, heading into their Week 10 matchup against Texas, Hill is completing a stellar 67.8 percent of his passes for 1,863 yards with 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions. The Horned Frogs actually outgained Iowa State 307-255yards in total offense, but couldn’t overcome Hill’s two picks and one lost fumble in the red zone.
“Everybody’s struggled to throw the football against Iowa State,” Patterson said Monday during the Big 12 coaches conference call with reporters. “Bottom line to it, we need to put Kenny in better situations. We didn’t find ways to win. It wasn’t so much Kenny’s deal as everybody’s. I think you can put the load on everybody.”
