One of the great things about getting to write about football, other than the obvious, is that you are often forced to pay attention to teams that other folks simply pay no heed to. I have always said that NCAAF Betting enthusiasts should step outside of their comfort zones and take time to look at more than just a single team or conference. What has become known as Week 0 of the college football season starts this weekend, with 4 games on tap, all of which feature teams that may not necessarily be on your radar. With no other distractions, this is the opportunity to get to know some of the lesser conferences, as well as a chance to find potentially great betting opportunities outside of the regular options. Of the 4 games on tap this coming Saturday, it may well be the late game here that is the pick of the bunch. These are a pair of evenly matched teams who have not faced each other since way back in 1953. Wyoming is on the road as 3 ½ point favorites in what should be a close game.

Hawaii vs Colorado State NCAAF Week 1 Odds & Game Preview

Why bet on the Wyoming Cowboys?

It would be easy to quickly write off this Wyoming team knowing that standout QB Josh Allen is now plying his trade in the NFL. That would be more than a little unfair to coach Craig Bohl, as he is slowly but surely getting this program back to respectability, with some pundits suggesting that this might be his best collection of players yet. Last season was a very good step forward for the Cowboys, as they finished the year with a very decent 8-5 record. Perhaps the biggest indication that this team might be ready for life without Josh Allen came at the Idaho Potato Bowl, where the Cowboys picked up their final win of the season, and without Allen under center. The Cowboys seem like a good bet here when you consider that they are a solid 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games.

Why bet on the New Mexico State Aggies?

The Aggies are in the tough position of being the home underdog in their season opener, although that is a label that they seem to enjoy. New Mexico State has covered the spread in 6 of the last 8 games where they were in as the dog, so they are certainly well worth a look here. Wyoming at New Mexico State is the best game in the opening weekend. The Aggies will be leaning heavily on their defense again this season, especially with most of their offensive playmakers from 2017 now out of the picture. That defense was solid last year, creating a staggering 27 turnovers in 13 games. Most of the key players are back on the D, so look for them to be strong on that side of the football once again. It is the play of that defense that has helped the Aggies go UNDER in all 8 of their last home games.

Expert Pick and Score Prediction

I think the obvious bet here is the UNDER 46 points, as I don’t see the Aggies offense going off in a big way. Combine that with the tough job that faces the Cowboys in breaking down that D and you have all the makings of a low-scoring game. Score: Wyoming Cowboys 19 – New Mexico State Aggies 17
