  5. Creative Minister +600

  8. Barber Road +1000

Top Longshot: Nest +800

On Saturday, the Todd Pletcher trained three-year-old filly could surprise big time. Nest’s second-place finish in the Kentucky Oaks wasn’t bad. Nobody was going to beat Secret Oath.

The thing to remember about Nest, and the reason she’s the top longshot, is that she has gotten faster with every race. Yes, she finished second in the Oaks. But she ran faster in the Oaks than she did winning the Grade 1 Ashland in the race before.

If she improves again, she can upset Rich Strike, Mo Donegal, and We the People.

Second Best Longshot: Creative Minister +600

After two strong races, the Kenny McPeek runner could bounce. Or McPeek’s horse could improve off the third-place finish in the Preakness Stakes.

The key for Creative Minister will be to keep We the People in his sights. If the Minister can keep touch with We the People, he should get first crack along with Nest at catching the lone front runner. Creative Minister will be in a great position to beat Nest and fill out the exacta. If We the People starts going backwards, Minister can win.

Third Best Longshot: Skippylongstocking +2000

Sure, the Preakness run wasn’t great. But that was Skippy’s first race since the Wood Memorial on April 9.

So the Saffie Joseph Jr. runner required a start, which shouldn’t surprise. Skippy had already run 9 times before the Preakness. Some horses require activity to stay sharp.

Don’t be surprised if this talented Exaggerator sired colt pulls off a shocker. He’s got the right trainer, that’s for sure, and on his best day, he’s proven he can hang with horses like Early Voting, the Preakness winner, and Mo Donegal.

Fourth Best Longshot: Golden Glider +2000

We the People ran them off their feet in the Grade 2 Peter Pan. The horse that finished second was Golden Glider.

Before tossing the Mark Casse trained runner, take a look at the past performances. Like Nest, Golden Glider has improved in every race.

Not only that, but Ghostzapper, Golden Glider’s sire, is one of the greatest racehorses of all time. And Glider is still figuring things out. If he takes a leap forward on Saturday, he could end up in the winner’s circle.
