2017 MLB Winning Predictions For Boston At Oakland

Written by on May 19, 2017

With each team in the MLB now having played around 40 games, we ae starting to get a clearer picture of what their outlook for the season may be. Yes, there is still three-quarters of the season to play, as well as injuries and potential moves to consider, but we are starting to get an idea of who may be the top contenders, and which teams might play a role as a dark horse. The Boston Red Sox were favored to win the AL East coming into the season, although everyone who picked them seemed to do so half-heartedly.

The feeling was that this was a team that would either be great or terrible, and for the moment at least, they are somewhere in the middle. The Red Sox are simply trying to keep pace with the Orioles and Yankees at the top of the division, and they will have the opportunity to make up some ground this weekend when they head to Oakland to face an A’s team that has been struggling early on.

Why bet on the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox (21-19) are not having a terrible season, and have in fact been flying under the radar a bit, especially since much of the focus in their division has been on the surprising New York Yankees. Boston are just 4 games back of their bitter rivals, and while they haven’t been losing a lot of ground in the race for the top, they haven’t been doing enough to narrow the gap and put pressure on the Yankees. The Red Sox are just 5-5 in their last 10 games, which includes losing the opening tilt in this 4-game series with the A’s. This was a series that Boston probably looked at as a chance to rack up some wins, and they still have 3 opportunities to do so. Drew Pomeranz (3-3, 5.29 ERA) will start for the Boston Red Sox. Why bet on the Oakland Athletics

Expectations were not particularly high for the Oakland A’s (18-23) coming into this season, and the opening two months have been as underwhelming as we expected. The A’s are planted firmly in the cellar of the AL West, already 11 games out of the top spot. The Oakland A’s have been getting good work from their starting pitchers, as they are in the top 10 in the league in quality starts, but the offense has been sorely lacking, with the batters hitting just .236 as a team, and basically just not able to drive in the runs they need to win on a consistent basis. Sean Manaea (1-3, 5.52 ERA) will start for Oakland.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

It was a disappointing start to this series for the Boston Red Sox, but I think they will get back on track in the remaining 3 games, including a win in this Saturday matinee.
