Arizona vs Colorado Game Preview, MLB Spread & Pick

Written by on July 10, 2018

Even though Arizona’s Patrick Corbin has been terrific in his past three outings, his start in Colorado on Tuesday night against fellow southpaw Tyler Anderson, who also has been terrific, has the highest total on the Mybookie Sportsbook betting board by far. The Rockies are slight favorites at the latest MLB Spread, so let’s check which team is offering the better value!

ODDS FOR 2018 WORLD SERIES POSSIBLE MATCHUPS

Why Bet on Arizona?

The Snakes haven’t won any of their past three series. Still, the D-backs have won 16 series (min. 3 games) before the All-Star Break, tied for the second most in the Majors this season and tied for the second most all-time in club history. In this current stretch, they were swept three at home by the Giants, lost two of three in Phoenix against the Cardinals and then over the weekend split four with San Diego, losing the final 4-3 in 16 innings. A.J. Pollock was ejected from Sunday’s game for arguing a called third strike. It’s the second career ejection for the dynamic Diamondbacks’ outfielder. Pollock was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI before his departure. Catcher Jeff Mathis ended up 2-for-6 with a pair of doubles, a walk and an RBI in Sunday’s loss. Mathis was also called upon to pitch in the top of the 16th, a pretty tough assignment considering he had been crouching behind the plate for the first 15 innings. He threw 60 percent of his pitches for strikes, but Wil Myers took him deep in the 16th to saddle the backstop with the loss. David Peralta Is hitting .341 (46-for-135)/.395 OBP/.637 SLG with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 8 home runs, 28 RBI and 19 runs scored in his last 34 games since May 30. The D-backs are 5-1 vs. the Rockies this season, including a 3-game series sweep @ Coors Field from June 8-10. Arizona has won 12 of its last 15 regular season games vs. Colorado. The D-backs have won 8 consecutive games at Coors Field since June 21, 2017, the longest streak in Denver in franchise history. The streak is tied for the longest by any team in ballpark history with the Pirates (July 27, 2014-April 27, 2016) and Angels (July 6, 2001-July 8, 2015). Lefty Patrick Corbin (6-3, 3.05) held the Cardinals to one run on six hits and two walks with six hits through six innings but was left with a no-decision Wednesday. Corbin was on point, as he induced 13 swinging strikes in nine groundball outs in his third straight quality start. In that span, Corbin has thrown 20 innings with 23 strikeouts against just three walks with two runs allowed. Corbin earned the win in his Opening Day start vs. Colorado on March 29, allowing 2 runs with 8 strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Why Bet on Colorado?

Colorado had a five-game winning streak snapped Sunday in a 6-4 loss in Seattle as the Rockies tried for the impressive sweep. The six runs allowed by Antonio Senzaltela also ended a streak of eight games where Rockies starters allowed two runs or fewer, which tied a team record. The Rockies have nine outings of at least seven scoreless innings, including four such outings since June 27 … that is tied for the third-most starts of that kind in franchise history (also: 2011) behind the 2008 (11) team and the 2010 club (16). Since the start of 2017, the Rockies have used eight starting pitchers, the fewest in the Major Leagues. According to the MLB Spread for Tuesday Night, the Rockies and Diamondbacks are pretty much equal. Trevor Story went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in his return to the lineup Sunday in Seattle. Story didn’t show any ill effects from the bruised right foot he suffered as a result of a hit by a pitch in Friday’s series opener. He has managed at four straight multi-hit performances over his past four starts, lifting his average from .274 to .284 since July 2. It’s Tyler Anderson (6-3, 3.90) here. Anderson allowed just two hits and two walks through eight shutout innings and struck out nine in a victory Wednesday over the Giants. Anderson has been great over his last two starts, both featuring eight shutout frames against a division opponent (Los Angeles Dodgers, June 29). He owns 17 strikeouts against three walks in that span. Anderson hasn’t walked more than two batters since June 1 against the Dodgers, a six-start stretch in which Anderson owns a 2.18 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 41:8 K: BB. He is the third pitcher in franchise history to record consecutive outings of at least eight scoreless innings, the first to accomplish that feat while holding the opponent to four or fewer hits. His 16.0 scoreless streak the longest active streak by a starter in MLB.
