Why Bet on Arizona’s MLB Lines?

The Snakes remain without outfielders AJ Pollock and Steven Souza and didn’t get particularly good news on either this week. A CT scan taken of Pollock’s fractured left thumb Monday showed progress but not enough for him to remove his soft cast. Pollock is just three weeks into his projected 4-8 week timetable and likely won’t return until near the end of that.An MRI on Souza’s injured right pectoral showed healing but not enough for him to be cleared to ramp up his physical activity. He’s have to wait a bit longer before he’s allowed to do full baseball activities. Souza has been on the disabled list on two occasions this season because of a strained right pectoral. The D-backs’ 20 triples are tied for the most in the Majors with the Pirates, ahead of the Cubs (19) and White Sox (18). Ketel Marte’s 6 triples are tied for the most in the Majors. In the bullpen, Yoshihisa Hirano has a 12-game scoreless streak (10.1 IP) since May 6 with a .171 (6-for-35) opponent average and 11 strikeouts (6 H, 2 BB-1 IBB). Fernando Salas has held opponents scoreless in 7 of last 8 games (1 ER in 7.2 IP). Andrew Chafin has not allowed a run in 14 of his last 15 games (1 ER in 10.0 IP). Brad Boxberger has held the opposition scoreless in 10 of his last 11 games (0.82 ERA; 1 ER in 11.0 IP).

Who Takes the Mound for the Dbacks?

It’s long-time Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz (1-1, 1.50) here. Buchholz was signed to a Minor League deal on May 4 and has pitched well in all three of his starts. He won on Friday after allowing one run on six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts in seven innings against Miami. Buchholz has allowed three runs over three starts (18 innings) so far, with 14 strikeouts and two walks. Five of the six hits he gave up were singles vs. the Marlins, and at one point he had retired 10 consecutive batters. It was Buchholz’s first game with nine strikeouts or more since Aug. 23, 2016.  He hasn’t seen the Giants this year.

Why Bet on San Francisco’s MLB Lines?

Are the Giants a safe bet in the MLB lines for Wednesday's game?Brandon Crawford hit his seventh homer of the season in a rout of the Diamondbacks on Monday. Crawford also doubled, his 13th of the season. The homer was the 7th of the year for the shortstop, and it came off of Zack Godley with no one on in the fourth inning. It’s been an exceptional year for Crawford, who now owns a .320/.364/.495 line over his 58 games. He should be an All-Star.As of Tuesday, the Giants are 18-10 at AT&T Park, winning each of their last six games and 11 of their last 15. San Francisco’s home winning percentage ranks as the fourth-best in MLB behind Boston, the Yankees and Philadelphia. The Giants are 27-6 this season when they score four-or-more runs in a game. Over their last 33 games, the Giants are 16-3 when scoring four-or-more runs compared to 1-13 otherwise. The Giants are without first baseman Brandon Belt. He left Friday’s game after one at-bat due to feeling ill, was rushed to a local hospital and evaluated for appendicitis. He had his appendix removed Friday and everything went well, but Belt could be out up to three weeks.

Who Takes the Mound for the Giants?

It’s Chris Stratton (7-3, 4.50) on the mound. Stratton picked up the win against the Phillies on Friday, giving up four hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven and walked one in a 4-0 victory for the Giants. Stratton has now won four straight starts and emerged victorious in five of his last six outings overall. He’s been a bit fortunate during that streak, as his 4.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 64 innings aren’t typically numbers that are found over the course of lengthy winning streaks.Stratton has had trouble keeping the ball on the ground this season, recording a 38.7 percent ground-ball rate — the 21st lowest among qualified pitchers. That wasn’t the case on Friday, as he had a 61.5 percent ground-ball rate against 22 batters faced. Stratton is 4-0 in his past four outings, with a 4.29 ERA, 15 strikeouts and eight walks over 21 innings.
