The San Diego Padres have hit just 41 home runs through the first 37 games of the season, and this team was supposed to be more powerful than that. San Diego has other defensive numbers outside of the power department, but at some point the team has to slug. 

Xander Bogaerts leads the team with six home runs, and getting Fernando Tatis Jr. back in the lineup is a big bonus. San Diego should have one of the top offenses in the league, but at some point those players have to hit. 

The Padres do come into this series with a team ERA under 4.00, but they don’t have enough dominant starting pitching. Joe Musgrove will take the ball on Saturday in this series, and San Diego needs him to turn into an ace. 

Dodgers Doing it All

There are some new players in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup this season, but those players continue to put up big numbers. The Dodgers have a team batting average of just .232 this season, but they have belted 64 home runs already. 

Max Muncy is having a monster season for the Dodgers as he leads the team with 12 home runs and 29 RBIs. Los Angeles has the ability to strike fast, and that offense is typically better on their home turf. 

The pitching staff for the Dodgers has a team ERA sitting at 4.10, but they will have two of their best starters on the mound in this series. Los Angeles always seems to be a team that can get opposing teams out when needed.

Dodgers Have Favorable Matchups

Since both teams have an offense that is capable of putting up runs in a hurry, you will need to look at the pitching matchups when previewing this series. The Dodgers should have the edge in all three of the games, and that should give them an advantage. 

San Diego just hasn’t been as dominant on offense as expected, but that could always change at some point. The Padres are going to have to get through the Dodgers at some point, but they just don’t have the pitching yet to get that done.
