How to Bet on Arizona at Pittsburgh Tuesday Night MLB Prediction

Written by on May 29, 2017

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to play above expectations, but are they starting to hit a bit of a wall with a two-game losing streak entering this series in Pittsburgh? The Pirates had a 3 game series this weekend against the New York Mets, which they won at 2-1. The Diamondbacks are coming off a 4 game weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers, ending the series at 2-2. Pittsburgh is a huge disappointments as they sit in last in the NL Central. But they are likely to be short MLB betting favorites here.

Why Bet On Arizona?

The Snakes enter on a two-game losing streak as they split a four-game series over the weekend in Milwaukee. It’s part of a season-high 11 game road trip. Manager Torey Lovullo said CF A.J. Pollock (groin) is “progressing very well,” but he doesn’t have an exact date Pollock will return. The D-backs are 29-7 (.806) this season when scoring 3 or more runs, the second-best mark in the Majors behind the Rockies (.811; 30-7). Arizona is 10-1 (.909) when scoring 3+ runs on the road, also the second-best mark in baseball (Rockies, .944; 17-1). Arizona’s bullpen leads the NL and ranks third in the Majors with a .205 opponents average during the month of May (Indians, .186; White Sox, .204). Arizona’s bullpen ranks third in the Majors and second in the NL with a 2.58 ERA (20 ER in 69.2 IP) this month (Indians, 2.15; Dodgers, 2.40). It’s lefty Robbie Ray (4-3, 3.45) on the mound here. Ray tossed seven shutout innings and generated nine strikeouts in Thursday’s 4-0 victory over the Brewers. Ray allowed only three runners to reach base, conceding a pair of base hits and hitting Manny Pina with a pitch. The lefty had endured a bit of a rough patch in late April through mid-May, turning in a 6.33 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over a five-start stretch, but he’s since rebounded with gems against the Padres and Brewers in his subsequent two turns. Ray has had a couple of outings this year where his pitch count issue reared its ugly head, but by and large he has been excellent. His last two outings have been the perfect example of that, where he has gone a combined 14.2 shutout innings while allowing only 4 hits, 3 bases on balls, and striking out 15.

Why Bet On Pittsburgh?

Young pitcher Jameson Taillon (cancer) struck out six batters over three scoreless innings Sunday in his first rehab start with Double-A Altoona. Taillon underwent surgery earlier this month to treat testicular cancer, but he was able to quickly return to game action. He was very sharp in his first rehab start, allowing just one hit and one walk while throwing 29 out of 47 pitches for strikes. Taillon should be ready to rejoin the Pirates’ soon, but manager Clint Hurdle doesn’t want to rush him. “We don’t have expectations, and we want to take it slow with him so he doesn’t feel any unneeded urgency,” said Hurdle. “He needs to get right when he’s right … this is uncharted territory.” It’s Ivan Nova on the mound here. He has been great this year, pitching 70 innings across 10 starts, while having a 2.83 ERA which ranks fourth among qualified starters in the NL. Somehow he has done it with a 4.76 K/9 and a 3.69 xFIP. Nova allowed four runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out a single batter over 8.1 innings during Thursday’s win over Atlanta. The Braves left seven batters on base, so Nova was pretty lucky to escape with just four runs allowed considering he surrendered 10 hits. Nova has worked at least six innings in all 10 of his starts, including his last outing vs. the D-backs, on May 14. In that game, Nova struck out four and allowed three earned runs in six innings.

Arizona at Pittsburgh MLB Betting Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates

Nova is an excellent 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA in four home starts this season.
