New York Yankees to Win the AL East Division +181

The AL East is one of the deepest divisions in baseball. The Tampa Bay Rays won the division last season. This season, Toronto is the chalk.

The Boston Red Sox should have a chance to take the AL East. Does that mean the Yankees won’t win the division? Not at all. New York is one of the teams that could take the division title. But at the odds, NYY is a play against. Boston is the best play at their odds while Tampa is the second best play.

NYY to Win the American League Pennant +450

This season, the AL is loaded. Teams like Tampa Bay, Boston, and the Chicago White Sox will be very tough to beat. Tougher than all of those teams are the Houston Astros.

The Stros get Justin Verlander back from injury. Verlander immediately becomes one of the favorites to win the Cy Young. Justin heads up a dynamite starting rotation.

The Yankees may not be good enough to win their division. So why would anyone believe they can beat a team like the Astros or White Sox in the playoffs? Once again, NYY offers underlay odds.

Yankees to Win the World Series +960

+960 are underlay odds on the Yankees to win the Fall Classic. New York should be a decent baseball team.

But the AL East is so deep that the Yankees will struggle to win their division. Unlike other leagues, like the NBA and NFL, if you don’t win your division, you must play in a wild card game.

So the Yankees may have to play an extra game just to get to the postseason while Houston and the Chicago White Sox should roll to their division titles. Again, the Yankees will be a good team. But +960 doesn’t reflect New York’s true chances of winning the World Series.

In 2021, Gerrit Cole’s issue was consistency. He threw worst as the season continued.

In April, Cole’s ERA was 1.43. His ERA climbed to 2.18 in May. In June the ERA flew to 4.65. It increased to 4.71 in July. The ERA dived to .51 in August but Cole threw just 17.2 innings.

The earned run average jumped to 5.13 in 33.1 innings thrown in September. Cole has the talent to win the Cy Young for sure.

But in 2021, he wasn’t consistent enough to come close. Also, nobody is behind Cole in the rotation. So he must carry the load again and that’s always tough.

Aaron Judge AL MVP Award +1500

Last season, Judge posted a .287 batting average, hit 39 home runs and drove in 98 runs. All in all, it was a good season.

The Yankees’ right-fielder could have a better 2022 than his 2021. Joey Gallo had just 498 at-bats. Giancarlo Stanton had 510. So if both those players pick up their at-bats this season, if they remain healthy, they could protect Judge in the lineup.

At the odds, Judge is worth a look to win the AL MVP. Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be tough to beat for sure. But Ohtani’s ERA could go up this season and, often, pitchers adjust after a season where a batter blows it out.

Trout is coming off an injury-plagued 2021 and Guerrero Jr.’s odds make him unplayable. Aaron Judge is an overlay to win the 2022 American League MVP.
