The Baltimore Orioles were leading the AL East for a while there but have started to fall back in the division as they enter this week on a seven-game losing streak. For the Orioles, it was a rough weekend series. They took the Houston Astros and lost all 3 games in the series. The Yankees had a pretty good weekend series against the Oakland Athletics, winning the series at 2-1. The Birds host the division-leading Yankees in Game 2 of a series on Tuesday night.

Why Bet On NY Yankees?

New York entered Monday’s series opener having won five of seven and home series over the Royals and A’s. In Sunday’s 9-5 win over Oakland, Aaron Judge hit his first career grand slam. Judge connected with two outs in the third for his 16th home run, tying Angels star Mike Trout for the major league lead. Judge is the youngest Yankee to hit a grand slam since Melky Cabrera in 2006. Judge also singled in the game, finishing 2-for-4, and he’s now batting .321/.422/.679. New York trailed 2-1 when Matt Joyce dropped Matt Holliday’s fly ball in the right-field corner for an error that loaded the bases. All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman (shoulder) threw for the second straight day Sunday. He said he felt strong and experienced no pain. But Chapman is still out at least another week. Yankees relievers have posted a 3.08 ERA (152.0IP, 52ER) with 173K this season, with opponents batting .204 (114-for- 560). Among Major League bullpens, rank second in opponents’ BA, third with a 10.24 K/9.0IP ratio and fourth in ERA. The Yankees are hitting .262/.338/.406 on the road this season, the Majors’ third-highest mark in OBP and sixth-best batting average. 2B Starlin Castro has hit .323/.344/.441 (30-for- 93) with 14R, 5 doubles, 2HR and 13RBI in 22 road games this season. It’s Luis Severino (3-2, 3.11) on the mound. Severino has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his past four starts, and has just once been touched up for more than four runs this season. He pitched eight shutout innings and struck out seven in his last outing, against the Royals. Over the last 20 years, only one other Yankees pitcher had an outing of at least eight scoreless innings versus the Royals: Mike Mussina, who did so in 2003 and 2004, both in Kansas City. The last to do so at Yankee Stadium was Jimmy Key in April 1993, allowing three hits over eight innings.

Why Bet On Baltimore?

The Orioles have been swept in back-to- back series, at home to the Twins and then over the weekend in Houston, losing each game by at least two runs. Mark Trumbo went 1-for- 3 with a solo home run in Sunday’s loss to the Astros. Trumbo drew the O’s to within 8-4 with his eighth-inning solo homer, but they were unable to jump over that hump and lost their seventh in a row when all was said and done. After thumping 47 homers last season, the veteran slugger has cracked seven through his first 48 games played in 2017. Five of those seven have come in the month of May. Since the beginning of the 2012 season, the Orioles lead American League clubs and rank fourth in the majors with 469 wins, finishing with a .500 or better record in each of the last five seasons. In that span, O’s hitters lead the majors with 1,172 home runs and have committed the fewest number of errors (431). It’s Chris Tillman (1-1, 4.43) on the bump. Tillman allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three batters over just five innings during Wednesday’s loss to Minnesota. The veteran righty has now allowed 10 runs over his past 15.1 innings with just 11 strikeouts. The underwhelming stretch has him sporting a 1.67 WHIP and 6.6 K/9 through his four starts this season. Tillman will be making his fifth start of the season, but his previous four starts were short outings, going only 20 1/3 innings for the season.
