Orioles Take On the White Sox as MLB Betting Favorites this Wednesday

Written by on June 13, 2017

The Baltimore Orioles make their only visit of the season to the South Side of Chicago this week and the teams play Game 3 of a four-game set Wednesday. The Orioles will be MLB favorites as they look to have a clear pitching advantage against a former member of that team. They started the series last night, with a victory from the White Sox. Baltimore is coming off a bad weekend series against the New York Yankees, in which they lost every game. The White Sox weren’t at their best either, as they faced the Cleveland Indians on the weekend, ending the series at 1-2.

Why Bet On Baltimore?

The last time these two clubs met in May, the Orioles swept the White Sox over a three-game set at Camden Yards. Baltimore has won or tied the season series in every year since 2009 (38-23, .623 against the White Sox in that span). The Orioles remain without All-Star closer Zach Britton (forearm), who will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Aberdeen on June 19. Britton completed a 25-pitch bullpen session on Saturday and another one Monday before then facing hitters in live batting practice Thursday. It’s unclear how many rehab appearances Britton will require, but it figures to be a handful given that he’ll have gone nearly seven weeks without game action. Could the Birds soon fire Manager Buck Showalter? They are struggling, and it has been reported that GM Dan Duquette and Showalter have a relationship that “continues to be unsteady.” Past unsteadiness occurred towards the end of the 2015 season. It’s not a coincidence this was another time where the Orioles were an on-field disappointment relative to preseason expectations. In particular, the injuries suffered by Chris Tillman and Britton have been a challenge for the team. Dylan Bundy (6-5, 3.05) is on the mound for Baltimore. Bundy allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six over six frames in Friday’s loss at Yankee Stadium. Spin: The right-hander served up a solid outing, inducing 14 swing strikes en route to his third quality start in four games. It took 13 starts, but Bundy’s ERA pushed above three for the first time all season following Friday’s performance. Bundy has been the lone shining star in the Orioles rotation this season, and will be looking for his 11th quality start of the year in just his 13 th attempt. Bundy has been handed a 1-4 record over his last five outings despite notching a rock-solid 3.24 ERA. Orioles Take On the White Sox as MLB Betting Favorites this Wednesday

Why Bet On Chicago?

Monitor the status of White Sox outfielder Leury Garcia as he didn’t start Monday’s series opener. Garcia jammed his hand on a slide into second base Sunday, though the severity of the injury is still unclear. The 26-year-old center fielder has impressed to the tune of a .300/.349/.461 batting line with six home runs and six stolen bases in 55 games this season. The White Sox are hitting .283 (248-877) with 32 home runs and 119 runs scored (4.8 R/G) over the last 25 games. The Sox rotation owns a 6.37 ERA (63 ER/89.0 IP) over the last 19 games, making just two quality starts (5/28-29). During that span, the bullpen has thrown 72.1 IP (4.73 ERA, 38 ER). The White Sox are 3-9 vs. the American League East this season after going 19-14 in 2016. From 6/6-29, the Sox play 14 of their 23 games vs. the AL East, including three vs. Tampa Bay (1-2), four vs. Baltimore (6/12-15), three at Toronto (6/16-18) and four vs. the Yankees (6/26-29). The White Sox are averaging 3.25 runs per game vs. the AL East and have posted a 5.08 ERA (57 ER/101.0 IP). Avisaíl García ranks among the American League leaders in average (3rd, .332), multihit games (T3rd, 23), RBI (7th, 42), slugging percentage (10th, .549) and OPS (10th, .920). It’s former Oriole Miguel Gonzalez (4-7, 4.89) on the mound. Gonzalez allowed four runs on six hits over 4.2 innings Friday in a loss against the Indians. He walked four batters and struck out just two. Over his last two starts, he has only fanned three batters. The right-hander has now lost seven of his last eight decisions. Gonzalez will be looking to get his season back on track at home where he is 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA over four starts. He’s gone 1-2 with a dismal 6.38 ERA over his last three outings.

Bundy pitched well vs. the White Sox on May 6, allowing three runs over six innings in a victory. He’ll win again here.
