The 2018 MLB season is creeping ever closer to the midway point, with talk of the All-Star Game now starting to dominate the headlines. This is often the part of the season where we see a bit of a lull, with players ready to get some well-earned time off. There is still some work to be done, though, with the division leaders looking to maintain or extend the leads they have at the top of their respective divisions. Toronto Blue Jays vs. Houston Astros – Monday

After being pushed early on, the Astros are starting to separate themselves from the pack in the AL West. They now have a 4 ½ game lead, thanks in large part to an 8-2 run in their last 10 games. The Jays are coming into this one after ending the week with back to back wins, but they are 5 games below .500 on the road this season. Houston will have Justin Verlander on the mound for this one, which very often means a win. Verlander is 9-2 with a glittering 1.60 ERA this season, and I like him to mow down the opposition on the way to his 10th win of the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Miami Marlins – Tuesday

The Diamondbacks are doing a fantastic job of holding off the hard-charging LA Dodgers in the West, and it has been partly because of a high level of consistency that sees them come into the new week on a 4-game win streak. The Miami Marlins have been playing .500 ball over the last 10 games but are still well adrift of the leaders in the East. They have struggled at home this year and are currently 7 games below .500. Even though they are playing a little better at the moment, they still look to be in trouble against a very good Diamondbacks team. I like Arizona to bag the win here.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Atlanta Braves – Wednesday

The Braves are one of the surprise teams of the first half of the season, as their young group of players all appears to be coming good at the same time. They have a 2 ½ game lead atop the National League East but are well aware that holding off the Washington Nationals are not going to be an easy feat. The Braves need to take advantage of their series against lesser teams, which is exactly what they are facing with the Reds coming to town. The Reds are in the running for the worst record in baseball and could be in trouble when they face red-hot Sean Newcomb on the mound on Wednesday. I have the Braves winning this one comfortably.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox – Thursday

After a promising start to the season, the Minnesota Twins have started to tumble, although they still have a way to go before they reach the depths that the White Sox have sunk to. The Twins have been playing .500 ball over their last 10 games, and while that is certainly not good enough, it still seems good compared to the 2-8 record that Chicago has posted over the same period. These are two teams very much heading in the wrong direction, but I think the Twins are the better of the two, which is why I have them winning this one.
