Monday, May 22

Minnesota (22-18) at Baltimore (25-17)

Heading into Monday night’s series opener, Minnesota had won three of four and is currently tied with Cleveland for first place in the AL Central despite ranking in the bottom or middle third in every single meaningful offensive and defensive statistical category.Baltimore took two of three against Toronto over the weekend after dropping six of their previous seven games. The O’s are a half-game behind the Yankees in the competitive AL East and like the Twins, ranks in the middle or bottom third in almost every statistical category except home runs where they rank eighth with an impressive 61.24-year-old Minnesota third baseman Miguel Sano is off to a fantastic start with 34 RBI in 39 games while batting .304 with 10 home runs. Despite betting just .248 and .221 respectively, Baltimore’s Chris Davis and Manny Machado have smacked nine and 10 home runs respectively.

Cleveland (23-19) at Cincinnati (20-23)

The Reds are 15-10 against the Run Line at home this season, but Cleveland is 15-9 on the road in the early going. The defending AL-champion Tribe are starting to heat up a bit after a slow start and come into this local interleague matchup have swept red-hot Houston over the weekend while winning five of their last seven overall. Conversely, Cincinnati is suddenly fading faster than a pair of over-washed blue jeans. The Reds has lost eight of their last nine and have given up at least six runs in each of their last six losses.Texas (24-21) at Boston (22-21)

Starting on Tuesday, May 23, the Red Sox will host the Rangers in a battle of AL World Series hopefuls. Texas will enter this series absolutely on fire having won nine of their last 10 games while sweeping Oakland and Philadelphia and taking two of three from Detroit. On the flip side of the coin, Boston clearly hasn’t found their stride just yet despite pounding Oakland 12-3 on Sunday. That win snapped a three-game skid and helped the BoSox to improve to a modest 5-5 over their last 10. Texas is ranked a surprising seventh in team ERA this season (3.90) and Boston has struggled to put runs on the board by ranking just 18th in scoring (4.5 rpg).

St. Louis (22-19) at L.A. Dodgers (26-19)

St. Louis will look to get back on track after dropping four of their last five while L.A. looks to extend its winning ways after going a polar opposite 4-1 in their last five. The Cardinals are just 1.5 games in back on NL Central-leading Milwaukee while Los Angeles sits in third place behind Colorado and Arizona in suddenly competitive NL West.Starting on Friday, a handful of matchups look very intriguing like Baltimore at Houston and Arizona at Houston, but we’ll get to those later in the week.
