Top Three MLB Betting Picks & Predictions for Wednesday

Chicago Cubs at Atlanta Braves

When: 12:10 PM ET Where: SunTrust Park TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / CSN-C (Chicago) / FSSE (Atlanta) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: 670 The Score (Chicago) / 680 AM,93.7 FM (Atlanta) MLB Betting Odds: TBA It’s the series finale between these two and the Cubs’ last look at the new SunTrust Park until 2018 – maybe by then the Braves will be pretty good with a stacked farm system. At the conclusion of this series in Atlanta, the Cubs will have played 23 of 32 games on the road from June 12-July 19. Following this series, the team will play 18 of their next 29 games at Wrigley Field from July 21-August 20. SunTrust is the 123rd different ballpark that the club will have played in since its inception in 1876. It marks will mark the 10th road ballpark that the Cubs have played against the Braves franchise since their first season in Boston in 1876, the third ballpark in Atlanta … the Cubs and Braves played in six different parks in Boston and one park in Milwaukee. The Cubs went 30-43 covering 20 seasons of play in Turner Field and 83-105 in 31 seasons at Fulton County Stadium. The Cubs are visiting a ballpark for the first time since playing a doubleheader at the new Yankee Stadium in 2014.

Who Will Start Off for Chicago on Wednesday?

It’s lefty Mike Montgomery for the Cubs. Montgomery took a no-decision after permitting three runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings against the Orioles on Friday night. Montgomery was seemingly set up for the win after the Cubs’ offense produced eight runs in the first three innings, but he did not last long enough to qualify. The southpaw has just one win in seven starts this season. Atlanta knuckleballer R.A. Dickey has found the fountain of youth. Dickey (6-5, 4.08 ERA) has allowed one run or fewer in five straight starts, and his home ERA now sits at 3.13 this season. While his 5.07 xFIP suggests that regression looms, his ability to induce contact on the ground (48.5 percent) and limit hard-hit balls (28.1 percent) bodes well for his future performance.

Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles

When: 7:05 PM ET Where: Camden Yards TV: FSSW (Texas) / MASN (Baltimore) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: 105.3 The Fan (Texas) / 105.7 The Fan (Baltimore) MLB Betting Odds: TBA I expect a high total in this one between two iffy pitchers. For the Rangers, it’s Martin Perez (5-6, 4.55). Perez won after allowing three runs on eight hits (one homer) and one walk with one strikeout over seven innings Friday against the Royals. Perez was highly efficient Friday, needing only 89 pitches to navigate through seven strong innings in which he induced 11 groundouts. The left-hander carried a 44.5 percent ground-ball rate into the contest, down significantly from 53.2 percent last season. Perez is 3-0 with a 4.34 ERA in his last five starts. He is 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA in his six starts on the road. This is only his second career start vs. the Orioles and first since 2013.

Who Will Be the Starting Pitcher for Baltimore this Wednesday?

The Birds go with disappointing Kevin Gausman (5-7, 6.39). The Orioles’ Opening Day starter has had just five quality starts in his 20 outings this season. In his last start against the Cubs, Gausman allowed eight runs on seven hits through just three innings. Manager Buck Showalter said sending Gausman to the minors is “always an option,” but he didn’t indicate whether it’s close to happening. A trip down to Triple-A Norfolk can only help Gausman at this point. He’s posted career-worst numbers across the board through 20 starts and 100 innings so far.

Latest MLB Betting Trends

  • Rangers are 4-2 ATS in the last 6 games on the road

  • Orioles are 2-7 SU in the last 9 games at home
  • The total went UNDER in 6 of Baltimore’s last 9 games at home
The Orioles are the MLB betting favorites against the Rangers.

LA Dodgers at Chicago White Sox

When: 8:10 PM ET Where: Guaranteed Rate Field TV: SportsNet LA (LA) /  CSN-C(Chicago) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: 570 LA Sports (LA) / WLS 890 (Chicago) MLB Betting Odds: TBA It’s the finale of this quick two-game interleague series. The Dodgers could be looking for their 11th straight win – assuming they win Tuesday night behind ace Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers lead the Majors with a 3.13 team ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, a .223 opponents’ batting average and nine shutouts (T-1) while leading the NL in strikeouts. It’s Kenta Maeda here. He won after giving up one run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings Friday against the Royals. Bouncing back from his shortest start of the season, Maeda has now allowed just seven runs over his past four starts (20 2/3 innings). The 29-year- old has also tossed five effective innings of relief work in the past month, and he owns a 4.38 ERA overall.

Will the White Sox Go for Rodon?

Chicago’s Carlos Rodon lost after allowing six runs on five hits (one homer) and three walks with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings Sunday against the Rockies. Rodon threw 52 of his 95 pitches for strikes, and he has walked 12 over his first 16 2/3 innings of 2017. The left-hander is demonstrating premium velocity once again and is missing bats at an above-average rate. Rodon only debuted in late June due to a shoulder injury. He has never faced the Dodgers.

Latest MLB Betting Trends

  • Dodgers are 4-2 ATS in the last 6 games
  • Dodgers are 5-0 SU in the last 5 games
  • The total went UNDER in 4 of LA Dodgers’s last 6 games
  • White Sox are 1-7 SU in the last 8 games
  • The total went OVER in 8 of White Sox’s last 12 games

Final MLB Betting Predictions

Take the Cubs on the moneyline in Atlanta, the over total (likely 9.5) in Rangers-Orioles and then Dodgers over White Sox – that parlay should be worth some nice cash.
