Minnesota Twins at Tampa Bay Rays

We have a pair of division leaders squaring off in this one, although you do have to say that the advantage is with the Tampa Bay Rays. They have the most wins (42) on the season and are a rather staggering 26-6 in their own ballpark. On the flipside, the Twins are just 2 games above .500 overall and 2 games below .500 on the road, which tells you all you need to know about the weakness of the AL Central, Still, they are division leaders, so they cannot be fully counted out here.

Texas Rangers at Tampa Bay Rays

I try not to mention the same team twice when I do these weekly previews, but the Rays have a very tough week ahead of them, with this weekend series set to be a whole lot tougher than their matchup with the Twins in the early part of the week. We have already spoken about the Rays, so let’s turn our attention to the Texas Rangers. They have been a ton of fun to watch this season, hammering home 376 runs already on their way to a 38-20 record and a 3 ½ game lead in the West. This is arguably the best series of the week.

New York Mets at Pittsburgh Pirates

This is certainly not the most glamorous matchup of the week, but it’s one that features a pair of teams trying to stay alive in their respective divisional races. The Mets have struggled after a positive start to the season and are now at 30-30 overall, which has them 5 ½ games back of the Braves for the lead in the East. We were all surprised at the start the Pirates made, and when the inevitable slide came, it looked like business as usual. This team has dug down deep, though and have now won 5 in a row to get within a ½ game of the lead in the Central.
