MMA for this Week Main Bouts Analysis and Betting Preview: PFL, UFC

This past weekend was a little strange in that we did not have a UFC event to watch and wager on, but they are back this week with an absolutely massive event that we will go into in some detail in just a moment. Other than that, things are very quiet on the MMA front this week, with just one other event to look at, which is the second week of the PFL. We usually just give a brief overview of each upcoming event, but with just 2 to choose from over the next few days, we can get a little more detailed about the main cards for each, so let’s dive right in and break both of these events down.

PFL Week 2

When: Friday at 6:30 PM EST
Where: The Theater at Virgin Hotels, Las Vegas, NV
TV / Streaming: ESPN 2

After a busy opening week in the PFL regular season, things get back to normal with a 4-fight main card in Week 2. The first 3 fights are all Heavyweight bouts for the men, with the other fight on the main card a women’s Featherweight bout.

The main card begins with Renan Ferreira going against Rizvan Kinuev in what appears to be a rather evenly matched bout. Kuniev is riding an impressive 9-fight win streak, so he is going to be tough to beat.

Denis Goltsov and Yorgan De Castro meet up next in another Heavyweight bout, and again, we are looking at a very solid matchup. Both of these men have some stopping power, so I would be surprised to see this fight go the distance.

Next up is the co-main event between Bruno Cappelozza and Mattheus Scheffel, who actually met in the previous season of the PFL. It was Cappelozza who got the win in that one, and he is the favorite again here.

The main event of the evening sees Larissa Pacheco and Julia Budd duke it out in a Featherweight bout. Budd has lost 2 in a row and looks in real trouble in this one.

UFC 287

When: Saturday at 6 PM EST
Where: Miami-Dade Arena, Miami, FL
TV / Streaming: Pay Per View

As you would expect with a numbered UFC event, this one closes out with a title fight at the top of the main card. All told, there are 5 fights on the main card, with each one rather high in potential quality. Let’s take a moment to quickly preview them all. The main card begins with a Bantamweight bout between a pair of fighters who have just 1 combined loss. Raul Rosas is a perfect 7-0 while Christian Rodriguez is 8-1. This is a great way to start the night.

Next up is a Welterweight bout that has a pair of fighters in need of a win. Both Kevin Holland and Santiago Ponzinibbio have had some struggles of late, but both have the ability to snap out of it and get a win.

The Bantamweights are up next, with Rob Font and Adrian Yanez stepping into the octagon. While Yanez has been on fire, Font has lost 2 in a row, which certainly skews things in the favor of Yanez.

Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal meet in the co-main event of the night, and this should be a beauty. With the losses beginning to pile up on both sides, these fighters need a win, so expect a real scrap.

The headline event is for the Middleweight Championship, with Alex Pereira looking to defend his belt against Israel Adesanya. The challenger is actually the slight favorite right now, but this one could go either way.
