Must-Bet French Open SemiFinals Taking Shape

Must-Bet French Open Semifinals Taking Shape

If you’re a fan of seeing the best players in the biggest moments, the 2023 French Open has delivered. While there have been a few upsets (world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev out in the first round), the top players have mostly performed as expected, leaving us with some incredible semifinal matches.

In the men’s draw, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz takes on Novak Djokovic in the semifinals on Friday in what could easily be the match of the tournament. The other semifinal will feature the winners of Alexander Zverev/Tomas Etcheverry and Casper Ruud/Holger Rune. Karolina Muchova and Aryna Sabalenka meet in the first women’s semifinal on Thursday, while Beatriz Haddad Maia will face the winner of Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff in the other.

Let’s take a quick look at the remaining French Open outright lines as of Thursday and preview some of the must-bet semifinal matches.

Roland Garros Semi finals: Thursday 8 June, Friday 9 June, 2023

Carlos Alcaraz (-200) vs. Novak Djokovic (+162)

It’s strange to see Djokovic as an underdog in any match, let alone the semifinals at Roland Garros where, if it weren’t for Rafael Nadal, he could have won many more Grand Slams. Yet, Djokovic as a +162 underdog is completely warranted given how well Alcaraz has played not only in this tournament but on clay this season.

The 20-year-old Spaniard has dropped only one set through five matches and dominated world No. 5 Stefanos Tstisipas 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) in Tuesday’s quarter-final. Djokovic has also dropped only one set, but he’s faced a little more resistance as he is 5-0 in tiebreakers at Roland Garros.

This is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated matches in recent memory as it could be a passing-of-the-torch moment for Alcaraz, who already has one Grand Slam title to his name and is looking to claim the "King of Clay" moniker from Nadal. He beat Djokovic in their only career meeting at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid event in 2022.

The smart bet here is on Alcaraz to prevail, but don’t expect Djokovic to go down without a fight. He excels with his back against the wall, as evidenced by his comeback after dropping the first set against Karen Khachanov in the quarters on Tuesday. The over (-120) on 38.5 games could also be a good value bet.

Karolina Muchova (+250) vs. Aryna Sabalenka (-334)

Muchova, an unseeded entry into the French Open, has enjoyed an impressive run, dropping only one set while taking down players like world No. 8 Maria Sakkari and 2021 French Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. However, she’ll have a hard time replicating that success against Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka is 1-0 in her career against Muchova and has yet to drop a set at Roland Garros. The 2023 Australian Open winner is 34-5 this season and already has three singles titles. This could be finished in two sets which, for Sabalenka, pays out -120.
