2024 Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum Betting Odds and Picks for the 1st Race of the Season

Hard as it may seem to believe, the start of the NASCAR season is almost upon us, with the action set to commence on February 18 with the running of the Daytona 500. NASCAR Lines at MyBookie Sportsbook | NASCAR Cup Series: Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum

While the regular season is still a couple of weeks away, we do have some racing to look forward to this weekend with a race that is essentially the preseason in NASCAR. The race in question is the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, and while there are no points up for grabs in this one, you can bet that every driver taking part will want a good showing as they prepare for the bigger races to come.

While this race is indeed little more than an exhibition, it is still a very big deal in the eyes of both the drivers and the fans. For the drivers, it’s a chance to get reacquainted with life on the track, while the fans get their first look at the potential Cup Series challengers ahead of the start of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season. This is the 3rd year that the race will be held at the Coliseum, with Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. the previous winners of this event. Who will win this Sunday night? Let’s take a look at some of the potential favorites, as well as their NASCAR odds to win the Cup Series Championship this season.

Favorites to Win Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum Odds Subject to Change
Kyle Larson +550
William Byron +570
Ryan Blaney +600
Denny Hamlin +730
Chase Elliott +790
Christopher Bell +890

Kyle Larson

After serving a suspension for the chunk of the 2020 season, Larson returned with a bang, winning it all in convincing fashion upon his return. He struggled to live up to such an amazing season, going out in the Round of 8 in 2022. He made a return to form last year and just missed out on another championship, finishing 2nd overall. Larson comes into the new season as the favorite to win it all again, but can he live up to that pressure? Only time will tell. As for the Clash at the Coliseum, Larson landed in 5th in this race last year, so he is definitely worth a look.

William Byron

After a rather forgettable first 4 years racing in the Cup Series, Byron made a bit of a breakthrough in 2022, landing in 6th overall. He improved on that record last season, making it all the way to the final four and a shot at the championship, only to come up short and finish 3rd overall. The feeling, though, is that he is ready to take another step forward this season, with a lot of race fans looking at him as a potential champion this time around. He landed 10 overall at the Coliseum race last season, but I would be looking at a better showing this time around.

Ryan Blaney

Blaney is a driver that has been a consistent playoff entrant over the last few seasons, but without ever really looking like he could go on and win it all. Last season was the first time that he made it into the final four and he took full advantage of the opportunity, ending the 2023 season as the NASCAR Cup Series Champion. Defending the crown is difficult, especially in a sport where winning regularly is tough. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the pressure of trying to repeat, but I would not use this race as an indication of how things might go. Blaney finished 17th in this race last season, which proves that the preseason is not a sign of future performance.

Denny Hamlin

If there is any kind of guarantee to be found in the Cup Series, it’s that Denny Hamlin will be there or thereabouts once we get to the closing stages of the playoffs. Hamlin has come close on countless occasions, but despite making it to the final four in 3 of the last 5 seasons, he is still looking for his first championship win. The bookies seem to think he will be in the mix again, which seems like a good bet, but how will he perform this Sunday? He landed in the top 10 in this race last season, so there is a good chance he will be in among the leaders again on Sunday, so he should certainly be in your thoughts when it comes time to bet on this race.

Chase Elliott

After a bit of a nightmare season in 2023, Elliott will be looking to bounce back and get back to championship winning form this year. Elliott missed 6 races through injury last season, and then had to serve a suspension later in the season. You simply cannot miss that many races and hope to be in the playoffs, so it wasn’t a big surprise when Elliott missed the final cut. I think he will come back with a bang this season, although given that he finished 21st in the Clash at the Coliseum last season, I’m not so sure we will see him at his best this weekend.

Christopher Bell

Bell has been with the Cup Series for 4 years now and is coming into his own in a big way. He made the playoffs in his first 2 seasons, but he didn’t end up going particularly far. That all changed in the 2022 season when he made it all the way to the final four. He repeated that showing last year, and while he has yet to win a championship, you have to say that he is very much knocking on the door. Could this be his season? Only time will tell. Bell finished 13th in the Clash at the Coliseum last season, but I think we will see a better performance out of him on Sunday.

This is certainly one of the tougher races to wager on, as we have a different format on a track where we don’t often see racing. It’s a bit of a crapshoot, to be honest, but each of the drivers mentioned above are definitely worth a look, even if you just want to pick someone to finish in the top 5 at the Coliseum.

2023 Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum

2023 NASCAR Betting Rundown for the 1st Race: Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum

Almost every major sport has some sort of preseason schedule that gives us a rather basic idea of who might or might not be in contention for a championship. With the NASCAR season now very much on the horizon, we can start to talk about what we can expect from the drivers in 2023. One thing that we know for sure is that this season will be the final one for Kevin Harvick, who announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2023 season. Can he finish his career on a high? Only time will tell, but on Sunday, February 5, we will get out first look at everyone, as we will have the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, which is essentially a preseason exhibition race. This will be the 2nd time this race has been held at the famed LA Coliseum, with Joey Logano winning it last year. Let’s look ahead to the 2023 running and who might be in the hunt so you can bet against their NASCAR Odds.

Joey Logano

You can’t really talk about the upcoming season without mentioning the defending champion as one of the favorites to win it all again. Logano won on this circuit last season, but he has also won the preseason opener twice in the last 6 seasons, so this is a guy who seems to enjoy getting back behind the wheel and getting off to a fast start. He has also won the Cup Series Championship twice in the last 5 seasons, winning 4 races on his way to a championship last season. Look for him to come out strong again.

Chase Elliott

Elliott has proven to be the model of consistency over the past 3 years, making it all the way to the final 4 in each of those seasons, with his lone championship win coming in 2020. This is a driver who doesn’t necessarily win a ton of races, but he always seems to be up near the front of the pack in every race, allowing him to accumulate a ton of points along the way. I’m nor so sure I would be looking at home to win this preseason race, but he is definitely a driver I would consider wagering on to win it all.

Kyle Larson

After serving a lengthy suspension in 2020, Larson bounced back with a massive season in 2021, reeling off win after win to win the Cup Series in an absolute canter. It was always going to be a tough act to follow, and while he didn’t exactly struggle last year, he will look at his 7th place finish as something of a disappointment. You can bet that Larson will want to get back to the top, so look for him to come storming out of the gate, which could potentially mean a win in the preseason opener.

Denny Hamlin

Hamlin might well be the best driver in the Cup Series to never have won a championship, but he has come close on several occasions. He was on a run of 3 straight trips to the final 4 before coming up short last season, when he ended up 5th overall in the driver standings. Given his consistency, we can expect him to come into the new season looking for a fast start, so he is another one to keep an eye on in this race.
