NBA 2021 Rookies Power Rankings Expert Analysis Update

Written by on February 24, 2021

While we are all focused on the standings and playoff picture in the NBA, there are other battles going on that many fans may not be paying much attention to. One of those might well be the race to win Rookie of the Year in the NBA, which is always a huge honor for the guys who get that award. Oftentimes, the players in the running are not on the radar of a lot of fans, mostly because they tend to play with teams that are very much in a rebuilding mode and not chasing a championship. The NBA official website has what is known as the Rookie Ladder, so let’s take a look at who they have as the current top 5 and then you can continue betting against their NBA odds.

NBA Rookie Power Rankings Feb. 24, 2021 Update

LaMelo Ball – Charlotte Hornets

At this stage of the season, Ball is averaging just shy of 15 PPG, but he has had some stellar nights over the past few weeks where he has surpassed that number. That includes dropping 34 points on the Utah Jazz, albeit in a losing cause. That has helped him stay atop the Rookie Ladder, and it certainly helps that he is one of only a handful of rookies to average over 10 PPG, 5 RPG and 5 APG through the first 30 games of the season. He is setting a fantastic pace, but can he maintain it all the way to the finish?

Tyrese Haliburton – Sacramento Kings

Haliburton is moving up the ladder this week, and for very good reason. He is averaging 13.1 PPG over the course of the season, but he has been hitting for 17.5 PPG of late. At a time when some rookies begin to fade away, Haliburton is getting stronger, leading some to suggest that it might be time for the rookie to be on the court from the start.

Anthony Edwards – Minnesota Timberwolves

It can be tough to stay motivated when you are playing on the worst team in the league, but Edwards is turning some heads in the midst of a brutal season for the T-Wolves. He has dropped down a spot in the ladder from the last rankings, when he was in at #2, but his stats haven’t really taken much of a dip. The drop is more about how on fire Haliburton has been.

Jae’Sean Tate – Houston Rockets

He may not yet be posting the stats of the other rookies in the top 5, as he is the only one averaging less than 10 PPG, but that may not be the case for much longer. Tate has been on a good run of form since the last rankings, averaging 15.5 PPG, as well as 7 RPG and 3 APG. This is a young man on the rise and one to keep an eye on.

Immanuel Quickley – New York Knicks

This is a player who has the distinction of being the only rookie in the top 5 to be on a team that is currently in a playoff spot. With that in mind, he is not relied on quite as heavily to deliver the goods as regularly as the others, so it is a testament to his ability that he is in the top 5.
