You know that an NBA conference is competitive when you have a team sitting below the playoff line with a winning record. That is exactly what is going on in the Western Conference right now, and while things might change in the second half of the season, we might also begin to see things tighten up, which would potentially make for a thrilling playoff. We are getting a little ahead of ourselves right now, though, as there is still half the season to come, so for now, let’s talk about the potential Western Conference winners. The bookies certainly know who they like to win the West, but what about you guys? Let’s take a look at some of the favorites along with their NBA Western Conference odds.
Updated Odds to Win the 2021 NBA Western Conference
LA Lakers (+175)
As we reach the midway point of the season, it is still the defending champions who are in as the favorites to win the West. While their 24-11 record is good, they have been going through a little bit of a rough patch, playing .500 ball of late. That run has come at a time when they are without the services of Anthony Davis, which will be the case until after the All-Star Game, so I would take this minor blip on the radar with a pinch of salt. Given how competitive the conference is, though, the Lakers will not want to slide out of their current 2nd place spot.
LA Clippers (+250)
The Clippers started the season as the team that looked the most likely to knock off the Lakers, and while they are certainly in the mix, they might not be the main threat. We will get to that in a minute. The Clippers are down in 3rd right now, sitting 3 ½ games out of the top spot, which is not too shabby for a team that has had some injury issues to deal with this season. They have been good against conference foes, going 12-6 versus teams from the West, but just think how that record might be if they were healthy.
Utah Jazz (+350)
With each passing week, the Utah Jazz are seeing their NBA Western Conference odds shorten. If they continue with their current pace, which has them at 27-8 and 3 ½ games clear at the top of the West, you have to wonder how low those odds can go. The Jazz are an impressive 15-1 in their own building, which makes them a legitimate threat to win the West if they can hold onto the top spot and get home court advantage through the playoffs. This is a very dangerous team, and you may want to play them now, as this is as good as their odds might get.
Denver Nuggets (+1300)
The odds drop off quite dramatically after the top 3 favorites, but as we mentioned at the top of this piece, the Western Conference is ridiculously competitive this season. It would not be a huge surprise to see a dark horse emerge and make a run, and why not the Denver Nuggets. They are sitting at 19-15 right now, but one thing in their favor is that they have a winning record in the conference, going 13-9 versus teams from the West.
