Check out an early NBA Betting preview of the upcoming 2022-2023 Season.

Early Betting Preview of the 2022-2023 NBA Season and What to Expect

2022-23 NBA Season

  • When: Oct. 18, 2022 – June, 2023

Top changes during the NBA offseason

The most important thing to know is that the NBA has permanently adopted the play-in tournament. The tournament happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020.

Since then, the Association has played the tournament. But they didn’t make the play-in tourney official until this offseason.

Another thing to know is that four teams have new coaches:

A few high-profile trades happened during the offseason. One of the top trades was when Utah sent center Rudy Gobert to Minnesota. Gobert will play alongside Karl Anthony-Towns to create a ridiculous front line.

Another huge move happened recently on August 25 when the Lakers acquired Patrick Beverly from the Jazz. Utah had acquired Beverly, one of the top defensive players in the league, from Minnesota.

But although Gobert and Beverly were important acquisitions, none was as big as the Celtics acquiring point guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Indiana Pacers.

Boston the chalk over Golden State to win the title

The reason the Celtics are a +440 choice to win the NBA Championship is because of the Brogdon trade. Boston didn’t play with a true point guard last season.

Brogdon allows Celtics head coach Ime Udoka to play Marcus Smart at shooting guard. With a single excellent point guard, the options are wide open for Udoka.

Golden State is now the second choice at +600 to win the championship. The team didn’t lose much. If center James Wiseman develops into the player Steve Kerr believes he can, Golden State will be tough to beat.

Bucks and Clippers co-third choices followed by the Suns

Milwaukee is a +620 third choice. Oddsmakers and NBA future handicappers know that if Khris Middleton hadn’t gotten hurt during the playoffs, the Bucks could have won the Eastern Conference.

The Clippers are almost a co-third choice at +650. Kawhi Leonard and John Wall should be healthy enough to contribute. Paul George remains in L.A.

So on the surface, the Clippers look like a great team. But we don’t know if Wall or Kawhi have anything left. LAC is an underlay.

The Suns are +830. Phoenix resigned center De’Andre Ayton and have kept the nucleus of their team together.

The key for The Valley this season will be how Cameron Payne develops. Phoenix’s backup point guard must eventually transition into a starter’s role because Chris Paul is 37.

Mavericks and T’Wolves the top overlays heading into September

Dallas is +2000 and Minnesota is +3300. Jalen Brunson no longer plays for the Mavericks, but Dallas added center Christian Wood.

While with Houston last season, Wood averaged close to 18 points and 11 boards per game. Minnesota also added a center.

Rudy Gobert joins a starting front court that includes terrific small forward Anthony Edwards and three-point shooting master power forward Karl Anthony-Towns. If D’Angelo Russell has a good season, the T’Wolves will surprise.

Heading into September, Dallas and Minnesota offer overlay odds. Consider both excellent plays.
