Why Bet on Dallas? | NBA Betting Analysis

The Mavericks came out flat in Game 4 at home on Sunday and were blown out 106-81. Clippers coach Ty Lue rolled out a small-ball lineup from the onset that prevented Luka Doncic from hunting Clippers big man Ivica Zubac on switches. At the same time, LA stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George attacked relentlessly from tipoff to help LA build a 61-45 halftime lead from which Dallas could never recover.

L.A. simply stifled the Mavericks, who never found a rhythm. Their point total was their lowest this season (previously 87). The Mavericks shot 34.8 percent from the field and were just 5-for-30 from 3-point land (16.7 percent).

Dallas superstar Luka Doncic shot just 9-of-24 from the floor and missed all five of his free throw attempts, finishing with 19 points, six boards and six assists. Doncic was caught grimacing due to his cervical strain he appeared to suffer in Game 3. The Clippers also took advantage of Doncic’s aching neck. He didn’t not use that as an excuse, but it obviously was the hottest topic after the blowout loss.

“Injuries are part of basketball,” Doncic said. “I played terrible. So we just got to move on to the next one.

Kristaps Porzingis had 18 points and five rebounds. After sinking just 30 percent of his shots in Game 3, Porzingis rebounded to go 7-of-12 from the field. Through his first four games of the playoffs, the 25-year-old is averaging 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 three-pointers, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks on 46.8 percent field-goal shooting in that span.

In the last two games, Dallas has a 130.8 defensive rating with Porzingis on the floor and a negative 26.5 net rating. When Porzingis is on the bench, the Mavs defensive rating is 107.6.

Big man Maxi Kleber was iffy for Game 4 but played but had easily his worst game of the playoffs, missing all three of his attempts from the field and finishing scoreless with five rebounds. Kleber was averaging 11.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 three-pointers on 61.1 percent field-goal shooting over his first three games in the playoffs.

“The Mavs are in trouble,” Charles Barkley said via NBA on TNT. “The Mavs are not going to win another game. They’re going to lose four straight.”

Why Bet on LA Clippers? | NBA Betting Analysis

The team that wins Game 5 of a 2-2 best-of-seven series advances to the next round 82.5 percent of the time (174-37).  In the Game 4 blowout, the Clippers won every quarter tonight and turned up the defensive effort in this game as the 81 points allowed was tied for the second-fewest amount of points allowed in a postseason game in franchise history. The Clippers outrebounded the Mavericks, 53-41 and outscored them in fast break points 17-4.

Coach Ty Lue and the Clippers seem to have found their preferred rotation. They are going to play small vs. the Mavericks. It allows them to switch, space the floor, and attack the rim. LA is also taking Kristaps Porzingis out of the game. He finished with just 28 minutes in Game 4, which was the second lowest among the starters. Coach Lue wants his team to attack the paint.

After combining for 65 points in Game 3, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George came together for 35 points in the first half to help LA build a 19-point lead thanks to a dominant performance from the duo in the paint and midrange. Leonard was an ultra-efficient 11-of-15 from the floor for 29 points along with 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. George had a big second quarter on his way to 20 points and nine rebounds.

Leonard, in particular, has been an absolute monster in this series, averaging 33.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 62.7% from the field and 47.6% from 3-point range. George isn’t shooting all that well from 3 in this series, but he’s at 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting an impressive 50% from the field.

New starter Nicolas Batum had 10 points five rebounds and four steals. The 32-year-old drew his first start since March 30 and should start again. Reggie Jackson had 15 points and five rebounds. The 31-year-old has started the last two games for the Clippers and has helped them win both.

Meanwhile, in just 89 minutes of action off the bench, Rajon Rondo leads LA with 23 assists and is second in plus/minus at plus-41. He’s shooting 45.5% from the field and has hit five of his 10 3-point attempts.
