NBA Orlando Magic 2020 Season Analysis

NBA Orlando Magic 2020 Season Analysis

Written by on March 18, 2020

Although the Covid-19 pandemic continues to force an NBA hiatus, the professional basketball league has yet to cancel the season. That’s good news for all of us who can’t wait for LeBron, The Beard, Kawhi, and Giannis to hit the basketball courts. In the meantime, while we wait for the NBA Season to resume, we can handicap possible playoff teams. In this blog, we take a look at the Orlando Magic, a squad that, although under .500, would make the NBA Playoff field if the postseason started today. Here’s an overview of the Orlando Magic 2020 season so far with NBA Odds and NBA Championship Odds.

NBA Orlando Magic 2020 Season Analysis

Orlando Magic – 30-35 Second in Southeast Division

 Magic Offense Analysis

If you’re a Magic fan, the offense rankings are downright scary. 106.4 per game ranks twenty-seventh. 44.2% from the field also ranks twenty-seventh. The Magic rank twenty-fifth in three-point percentage at 34.1%.

It’s not all bad news. 4 Magic players average more than 10 points per:  Nikola Vucevic with 19.5, Aaron Gordon with 14.4, D.J. Augustin with 10.4, and Markelle Fultz with 12.1. Also, in their final 3 games before the break, the Magic scored 132, 126, and 130 points. So, there’s hope for this offense!

Magic Defense Analysis

Orlando has excelled on the defensive end. Even though the Magic allow 46.3% from the field and 37% from three, opponents average just 107.3 points per. The average allowed each game ranks fourth in the NBA. Orlando averages 45.1 defensive rebounds per game. That ranks fifteenth.

Most of the rankings are terrible. But the one that matters, points allowed per, makes the Magic defense a tough unit. Once the NBA resumes, the Magic will lean on their defense to continue to win games.

Orlando Magic Playoff Panorama

Right now, the Magic are the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Once the NBA resumes, they’re likely to go straight to the playoffs. Nobody wants to waste time on the regular season and soon the NBA must get ready for the 2020-2021 season. Orlando will make the playoffs.

Magic Odds to Win the NBA Title – +5000

Like the other sub .500 underdogs on the list, the Orlando Magic offers massive odds to win the NBA Title. At first glance, it appears as if Orlando has no chance. They don’t score enough points per game.

But before the hiatus, Orlando may have turned the corner. In their last 3 games, the Magic blitzed Minnesota 132-118, dominated the Rockets 126-106, and beat Memphis 120-115. Should the offense pick up where it left off once the NBA Season resumes, Orlando could make some noise. We can think of worse +5000 choices to put your money behind.
