The Western Conference is about as tight as it gets right now, with just 4 ½ games separating the Denver Nuggets on top from the Dallas Mavericks down in the #8 spot. A couple of wins in a row can propel a team up the standings rather quickly, while a series of losses can have the complete opposite effect. The bad news for the Portland Trail Blazers is that they are in the latter category, slipping down the standings after their hot start to the season turned cold. While the city of Portland holds its breath waiting to see if the Timbers can win their second MLS Championship on Saturday, fans of the orange ball are simply hoping that the Trail Blazers can find the form that got them off to such a good start this year. This may be the match-up that kick starts a positive run, as Portland has dominated the Phoenix Suns in recent seasons. Perhaps no real surprise then that the Trail Blazers are in as a 14 point favorite for this one, with the point total set at 216.
Of greater concern, at least from a betting standpoint, is that they have covered the spread just once in their last 10 games and have failed to cover in each of their last 8. They are, though, 6-5 ATS as a home favorite, and while that is not a stat that would convince you to jump on their wagon here, it is something positive to look at. The other positive note is that they are 6-3 SU versus teams at or below .500 this season.

Why bet on the Phoenix Suns?
With a record of 4-20, the Phoenix Suns are officially the worst team in the NBA, so it’s going to be tough to find a reason why they might be a good bet here. You could point to the fact that the Trail Blazers are on a poor run of form at the moment, but you also need to consider that Phoenix is currently on a 7-game losing streak versus Portland and that they have just 1 win on the road in 12 attempts this season.Looking for the Suns to cover the spread here also looks like a losing bet, as they have covered just twice in their last 10 games and are currently on a 0-6 ATS run. If you want to look for positives, their last 3 meetings with Portland, all of which were last season, ended with them losing by an average of just over 5 PPG.Team Stats
