College Basketball Analysis & Betting Opportunities For Week 6

Written by on December 12, 2022

The hits just keep on coming in the college basketball universe. Week five brought the typical results with a few big-time surprises. The best team in the nation goes down over the weekend, while the second-ranked team fell earlier in the week. The new top 25 will be released Monday evening, and here is what you can expect. Here is the complete analysis for your NCAAB bets.

AP Top 25 Analysis and Betting Opportunities for Week 6

A New Number One

Houston played their most talented opponent of the season this weekend and, despite a valiant effort, couldn’t hold the Alabama Crimson Tide at bay. While losing to ‘Bama is certainly not a bad loss, the Cougars will in all likelihood, fall from the top spot. The new number one may surprise you as Texas also fell this week to Illinois.

The Connecticut Huskies seem to be gaining steam with voters and defeated their weekend opponent by 53 points. You can expect Danny Hurley’s team to, at the very least, receive some first-place votes and possibly slide into the top spot, with Purdue barely getting by Nebraska in overtime. Connecticut is currently the number one ranked team in both the Pomeroy and Haslamatric rankings, and the AP should follow suit.

This week, the Huskies only play one game, on the road against Butler. The Bulldogs are one of the more unpredictable teams in the power conferences and will likely be roughly a 10-point dog. Connecticut is rolling and will likely emphatically make their mark in Indianapolis this weekend.

Is Tennessee for Real?

The Vols escaped Brooklyn on Sunday night against Maryland and just barely. After being in complete control during the first half, Tennessee looked completely out of sorts in the second half. Rick Barnes’ club almost squandered a 17-point halftime lead and were fortunate that the Terps leading scorer, Jahmir Young, missed a jumper with 11 seconds left in the game.

This is all too familiar for those that follow college basketball, as Rick Barnes has a reputation for underachieving. Tennessee fell to Colorado earlier in the season in what can only be described as shocking in fashion. They are one of the best defensive teams in the nation, and they are incredibly deep, but if this team is going to be trusted with your wager, they need to show they are capable of consistency against quality opponents.

This coming weekend they will face off with one of, if not the best, offense in the nation when they travel to Tucson to take on Arizona. Shockingly enough, the Vols are one of the best teams in the Southeastern Conference on the road over the last four-plus seasons. That said, you’d have to be a thrill seeker to place a wager on this team at the moment.

Indiana Needs to Beat Kansas

The Big Ten is once again shaping up to be a nightly rock fight and the Hoosiers need to capitalize on their out-of-conference opportunities. They were not able to take down Arizona in Vegas but will receive another shot on Saturday when they travel to Lawrence. Both teams will have the entire week off leading up to the game, which should lead to one of the best games of the out-of-conference season. The Hoosiers will likely fall to the high teens on Monday night, and a Kansas loss may result in Mike Woodson’s club falling from the rankings altogether.
