Tulane Vs Nevada Expert Analysis – NCAAF Betting

Written by on December 21, 2020

The Nevada Wolf Pack and Tulane Green Wave will both look to cap off their respective 2020 campaigns in style when they square off in the 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 22, live from Albertson’s Stadium in Boise.

Tulane has been hot down the stretch and will look to record consecutive victories to cap off their season. Nevada has struggled the last few weeks and will look to rebound from a humbling loss in their regular season finale. These two schools have only met once before, way back in 1992 at the New Orleans Superdome with Tulane winning 34-17. No fans will be in attendance due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Now, let’s find out which team is offering the best betting value in this matchup so you place your bets against their NCAAF odds.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Odds and Predictions – Tulane at Nevada

Tulane Green Wave (6-5) Vs Nevada Wolf Pack (6-2)

  • When: Tuesday, Dec. 22
  • Where: Albertson’s Stadium, Boise, ID
  • NCAAF Odds: Tulane -3
  • Total: 56.5

Why Bet On Tulane

Tulane won four of its final five games and comes into this affair fresh off a thorough 35-21 smackdown of Memphis in their regular season finale on Dec. 5 as quarterback Michael Pratt passed for 254 yards with a pair of TD tosses and no interceptions while adding a pair of rushing scores for good measure.

Tulane finished 3-5 in the American Athletic Conference but got hot at the right time to qualify for a bowl game berth. The Green Wave rank 64th in total offense, including a stellar 17th in rushing (217.7 ypg) while putting up 35.4 points per game (21st). Defensively, Tulane limits the opposition to 27.2 points per contest (53rd).

“I am so proud of everyone in our program that have dedicated themselves all season to allow our team the opportunity to compete in a bowl game,” Tulane coach Willie Fritz said. “Everyone from the players to the coaches to the staff have played a key role in getting our team to this point.”

Why Bet On Nevada

Nevada dropped two of its final three regular season games and comes into this matchup fresh off a humbling 30-20 loss against San Jose State 30-20 on Dec. 11. Quarterback Carson Strong passed for 260 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, but was sacked four times and the Wolf Pack lost a pair of costly fumbles in the loss.

The Wolf Pack started the year 5-0 before losing two of their last three games. Nevada is back in the Idaho Potato Bowl for the second straight postseason after losing to Ohio in last year’s version to fall to 0-3 all-time in this annual bowl game. Still, Strong, a sophomore, was selected the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 2,587 yards with 22 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

“I just think he’s got a unique work ethic,” Nevada coach Jay Norvell said. “And we’ve really poured a lot of preparation and development into that kid, and he’s accepted it. One of the things you have to have to be a good quarterback in our system is you have to have a real appetite to want to learn. Carson has that.”

Nevada finished ninth in passing nationally and put up 29.9 points per game (55th) while allowing 22.9 points per contest defensively (33rd).

Expert Analysis and Prediction

Tulane has the more potent offense while Nevada is statistically better on defense. With that said, I like Tulane to get the win and narrow ATS cover as 3-point favorites based on their powerful rushing attack and the way they closed out the regular season.

The Green Wave have gone a  near-perfect 6-1 ATS in their last seven games, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and a blistering 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games as a favorite. While Nevada has gone 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog., 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 bowl games and an encouraging 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall, the Wolf Pack have also been limited to 21 points or less in two of its last three games while Tulane has scored 35 points or more four times in their last five games. Tulane takes care of business to get the hard-fought win and narrow ATS cover.

Pick: Tulane 30 Nevada 24
