7 Super Bowl Betting Favorites from the Past Worth Looking at

Written by on December 8, 2021

It’s always easier to bet on the favorite. More times than not, they’re the better team throughout the regular season and playoffs. In the last seven Super Bowls, the favorite has gone 3-4. Here is a brief look at each of the seven Super Bowl Betting favorites, and we’ll look and see how they fared in each one.

A Look at the Past 7 Super Bowl Betting Favorites

Kansas City Chiefs (-3) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were the favorites heading into this one. Very few teams had been able to stop the powerful Chiefs offense. Unfortunately for Andy Reid, the Tampa Bay defense had a great game plan, and Mahomes was running for his life most of the evening.

Combine that with the fact that the Chiefs defense wasn’t able to stop Tom Brady and his arsenal of weapons, and the Bucs defeated the favored Chiefs 31-9.

Kansas City Chiefs (-2) vs San Francisco 49ers

While it looked like the San Francisco 49ers were going to win the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs rallied late to dash the hopes of the San Francisco faithful.

Patrick Mahomes showed the nation why people were already calling him a future Hall of Famer. The Chiefs scored a 31-20 victory to win Andy Reid his first Super Bowl.

New England Patriots (-2.5) vs Los Angeles Rams

Bill Belichick and his New England Patriots showed everyone why they are one of the greatest dynasties in the history of sports. Even though they were favored, the Patriots stopped one of the league’s best offenses, holding Sean McVay’s Rams to just three points in the Pats 13-3 win.

Belichick showed everyone why he is one of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history.

New England Patriots (-4) vs Philadelphia Eagles

Nick Foles will always be associated with the playoff run that he led the Philadelphia Eagles on. After starter Carson Wentz went down with a torn ACL, Foles took over under center and went on a historic run through the playoffs.

Many felt that Bill Belichick and the Patriots defense would be able to slow the journeyman quarterback down, but that wasn’t the case. The Eagles put up over 40 points on the vaunted Pats defense in the Eagles 41-33 win.

New England Patriots (-3) vs Atlanta Falcons

The nation was in shock as the Atlanta Falcons took a 28-3 lead at halftime over the favored New England Patriots. Tom Brady decided that his team wasn’t going to lose, and the Patriots had an epic comeback, as they ended up defeating the Falcons by a score of 34-28.

The Pats’ defense held Atlanta scoreless in the second half. This game will be forever remembered as the “28-3” game.

Carolina Panthers (-5) vs Denver Broncos

Regular season MVP Cam Newton and his Carolina Panthers were going to take it to aging and broken Peyton Manning. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Manning had just enough left in the tank, and he was able to win his second Super Bowl, upsetting the heavily favored Panthers.

Chalk another one up for the underdogs.

Seattle Seahawks (-1) vs New England Patriots

Had offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell decided to hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch rather than call a pass play; the Seattle Seahawks probably would have won the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately for Bevell and the Seahawks, Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson’s pass at the goal line, and the rest is history.
