NFL Betting Rumors & News: Baker Mayfield and Tyrann Mathieu Still Looking for a Team

While we are in the NFL offseason and a long way from seeing live action again, the business of the league never ends. Not a single day passes without some rumor or another hitting the headlines, although many prove to be little more than beat reporters trying to fill their pages with stories that will likely never come to pass. That said, where there is smoke, there is very often fire, so while we can take a lot of stuff with a grain of salt, there are some rumors that will not go away. That is what we are going to get into here, as we look at the latest rumors and potential deals and trades across the NFL so you can start planning your bets against the NFL Odds.

One story that has been building steam the entire offseason is where Baker Mayfield might end up. It has been a bit of an unpleasant saga for the Browns QB, but one that only got worse when Cleveland signed Deshaun Watson. Mayfield is now essentially surplus to requirements, but no team has yet to pull the trigger to land his services. The New York Giants are one team that might end up taking a chance on Mayfield, and we should also not count out the Seattle Seahawks, even though they picked up Drew Lock in the trade that sent Russell Wilson out west.

In terms of big-name free agents, there are not that many who have yet to find a new home. The biggest name still out there is Tyrann Mathieu, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs. Initially, Pittsburgh looked like a potential landing spot, but that ship appears to have sailed now. The latest news suggests that New Orleans might end up being the new home for the Honey Badger, as he is currently on a visit to the Saints facility. The Saints have a ton of cap space to play with, so landing Mathieu would not hurt them financially.

We have seen some big-name receivers, such as Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams, switch teams this offseason, but according to the Tennessee Titans, we should not expect to see AJ Brown’s name added to that list. Despite persistent rumors that Brown might be available in the trade market, the Titans insist that he is not and that they are working on getting him an extension that would keep him in Nashville for the foreseeable future. The question now is whether that is indeed the truth or whether the Titans are simply trying to up the trade value of their star receiver.

Every team in the league wants to have a franchise QB locked up at the start of the season. We have seen several big QB moves this offseason, which is not that surprising given that this year’s draft is not exactly filled with potential starters. One QB that is getting a lot of attention is Malik Willis out of Liberty. He has already been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers and is now rumored to be meeting with the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers. It is going to be interesting to see where he lands in the upcoming draft.
